I met Laure during the exhausting fashion week circuit and I loved her energy right away. Plus, she’s French but lives in the States so in like ten seconds, we totally clicked!

Laure is the owner and buyer for an awesome store in Miami called The Webster (the kind of place that you just want to buy everything in the shop)(I ended up leaving with a skirt and a pair of shoes but there’s a whole day ahead for me to cave-in on so much other stuff!)(Help!).

I asked her to make us a little, yet very personal, guide-book for Miami (we tested out a few places together), a city that has started to hold a very special place in my heart.

You can go to all of them because they’ve all been tested and super approved!

How would you describe Miami to someone who has never been?

Miami is a sunny and colourful city on the beach with a unique Caribbean Art-Deco architecture, at the crossroads of South/Latin-America and classic USA.

Where is the best place to unwind?

The “Brazilian” beach South of 5th Street and the Fairchild Botanical Garden, where not only the flowers, plants and trees are absolutely sumptuous but they also do amazing artists shows like the biggest Claude and Francois-Xavier Lalanne outdoor show in the USA last year.

What is your absolute favorite restaurant?

Mandolin, Casa Tua and Cecconi’s at the Soho Beach House. Garcias for fresh fish and Tap Tap for the delicious Haitian food and amazing decor.

What is the best way to get around the city–car, scooter, bike?

Beach-cruisers are my favorites! Especially around South Beach…it is flat and easy. But the fact that Florida law doesn’t require people to wear helmets on scooters makes it extremely popular with my European friends.

Where is your favorite place to buy vintage?

C. Madeleine’s, a one-of-kind, extremely well-edited vintage store where the clothes are divided by years, the 30s, 40s, 50s, etc… An amazing real-life fashion history class!!!

Where do you go for a night out with girlfriends?

Mr Chow and Soho House or Bardot if we feel like dancing.

And for brunch?

Icebox, for homemade delicious food and cakes.

Where is the best place to get in a good work out?

Pilates at David Barton Gym or yoga at Green Monkey.

What is your city’s philosophy?

Enjoy every sunset as if it was the last one but be ready for the next day sunrise!

Where do you go to pamper yourself?

The Standard Spa.

Where is your favorite place to have a coffee and people watch?

The News Café and the Lobby Café at The Raleigh Hotel.

What is your Miami clothing staple?

For the beach I wear an Eres bathing suit for sure, Rondini “Tropeziennes” sandals and Garrett Leigh sunglasses.

For work I wear my Balenciaga printed dress and my favorite Pierre Hardy green suede high-heel shoes.

The one item I never travel without is my Balenciaga black motorcycle jacket.

What is the very touristy place that you still love to go to sometimes?

Joe’s Stone Crab, in season.

Tell me about your ideal day in Miami…

When I’m not on the Fashion Week roller coaster between NY, London, Milano and Paris, I get up early and go for a swim. I try to do it every day, that’s the beauty of Miami’s warm weather–you can swim in the ocean all year long.

Then I bike to my office at The Webster. I order some fresh juice from Athens Juice when I get to the office. After some morning work, especially with Europe with the time difference, I often go for lunch at The Tides Hotel as it’s near The Webster. I can easily walk back and fourth and then go back to work in the store. To this day, after 4 years in Miami I still love the sunset at The Standard. A casual diner at Mandolin and a last drive by the Soho House before bed…of course during Miami Art Basel the schedule is much more intense…

I have seen Miami change so much, in a very good way, the last few years. Since I commute a lot between New York, Miami and Paris I am always so happy to come back and notice changes, and of course see a few palm trees!
