Personally, it was hard to get past the images of the men lancing the bull and then of the bloody animal itself. I’m not an animal rights type person but let’s not glorify something more than it deserves…

hear hear.. I love to see some video’s from scott but this just gave me a lump in my throat for all the wrong reasons. (And I’m not some animal rights activist.. I eat meat. I just do not stab bulls and watch them bleed for the ‘beauty’ of it.)(Would love to have the matadors jacket though)
Same here. It is a controversial kind of cultural event, and as with most controversial things, there are good reasons for the controversy. Let’s just say the bulls involved don’t have a choice. I’ll keep it short, even though I am an animal rights kind of person…
What an interesting concept! Having lived in Madrid for a year, I can attest to Scott’s depiction of bullfighting: dramatic, colorful, powerful, brutal, sexual, and intense. It is a sport like no other. No matter what you might think of it personally, it is an experience that opens your eyes on a culture and tradition that is slowly fading. Bullfighting is banned in most cities in Spain and only a few support it. Images like Scott’s capture the true essence of it. I wish there was more captured of the fans and spectators in the arena. They had another level of color and passion to the sport. It is the only sport I know of where the spectators decide how the bullfighter is rewarded. Love video! Thank you for sharing.

I am from Madrid and I have to say I liked the video, because even if I am part of the vast majority of Spaniards that repudiate the sport of bullfighting, has shown a much more artistic and delicate face of it. Although I do not like the idea that people associate my country to this sport, I recognize that it is a video made with tact. Congratulations, enhorabuena!
You’re a brave man Scott, taking on a challenge of this nature! What an awesome film! I can take a great deal of inspiration for velvet coats gleaning from the trimmings and decorations of the matador’s outfit, what spectacular costumes they wear!

A book must not be a fashioned book. I like american people loving Spain, as i am a Spaniard myself. Madrid is a good place to be. Another Hemingway if he dared to write ?

J’ai toujours été partagée concernant la corrida. L’Espagnole en moi trouve cela magnifique, mais la petite Française retient la cruauté de tuer un taureau à chaque fin de corrida. Je ne sais pas trop quoi en penser, honnêtement. “Agacer” le taureau avec les picadors, le tuer est-il nécessaire pour ce “sport” ? Je ne pense pas… Pour moi, il s’agit surtout d’un combat dont tout le monde connaît à l’avance l’issue. D’un autre côté, j’ai toujours été impressionnée par la ferveur que suscite ce sport, les costumes, le maintien et la prestance des toréadors…
Enfin bref, je m’égare. Juste une toute petite question sans rapport : Scott parle espagnol ?
Oui, j’ai commencé à regarder hier, et ça m’a tout de suite captivée.
On regrette qu’il n’y ait pas tout de suite plus d’autres épisodes disponibles.

C’est vrai que c’est c’est une très belle vidéo, et ça n’a pas dû être facile de se mettre à leur place … que d’adrénaline ! Mais c’est justement ce qui animent les toreros.
Moi je trouve ça plus esthétique que bien des sports masculins, très majestueux, même si c’est très décrié aujourd’hui.
Bon, en tout cas il s’en sort très bien !

La corrida, quelle horreur!
As a spaniard, I´ve really LOOOOOOOVED that video.
I´m proud that Scott has had the eye to catch that beautiness, elegance, art and high-quality handcrafts that is behind the in some way “brutality” of the bullfights.
Really apreciate it that Scott had had the courage to go a step further and had ignored prejudices that exists in this world towards bullfighting.

I’m a Spaniard, I’m against bullfighting… And I loved the video. Amazing Scott!!!
Je viens de regarder cette superbe video sur la corrida. Je suis une “aficionados”,depuis toujours, peut être parce ce que je suis née entre Nîmes et Arles, ou je vis toujours.
Elle déclenche des haines et des passions. Je rentre de la corrida goyesque d’Arles, une merveille ou se mêlent l’art, le chant, la corrida….
Et j’attend avec impatience demain pour me rendre à celle de Nîmes, qui clôture la saison tauromachie en France.
Bravo à Scott qui a su sublimer cet art, et comme le disait Hemingway, la corrida est une tableau vivant, qui vit et meurt dans l’arène.
Superbe! Quelle belle idée que de filmer un torero (et celui-là a une beauté à couper le souffle). La séquence chez le tailleur est top. Le rythme est bon, la lumière belle ainsi que l’intro. Comme d’hab’ Scott a fait du bon boulot … Très inspirant.
Wow such an amazing experience. I loved learning the history behind this sport.

The beautiful dance, nothing to compare. I saw El Cordobes and one of the last fights of Antonio Ordóñez in the famous Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas in Madrid in the 1960s as a child. Cruel, yes, but even then I knew they represented the edge of life and death.
i just watched the Milan episode and felt like i could almost cry. the first time i went to that city was such a dream. i grew up in Indiana also, and when i moved abroad the style of europe captivated me. i love Paris but the intoxication of Milan is something else entirely
