Milla’s New New Bangs

11 years ago by

This morning, I stumbled upon a picture of Milla Jovovich in Cannes. Ouuuh ! Loving her hair…

After fast inspection of her Instagram account (ah, modern life, you can know everything about anyone in a sec!)(even if that’s a total illusion!) I saw she just had a hair cut and I LOVE IT.

Milla Jovovich Cannes Photo

Question #1 – What do we think of bangs right now? Yes? No?
Question #2 – What do I think (I mean, what do YOU think???) of bangs on me? My keratin treatment is giving me wings.
Question #3 – Milla, could you please let us know your secret to still always look like you’re 15 ?

Je pense que les cheveux de Garance aujourd’hui devrais être long long long…..

  • it’s not the hair, but those mesmerizing eyes :D

  • Question #1 – Non

    1. Bangs! Yes! Even if wearing a boring outfit, bangs can give the wearer a certain style. I love short bangs with longggg hair.

    2. Bangs on you: only if you’re committed to the maintenance. I have wavy/frizzy hair, and when I had them, I had to “style” them daily. More complicated if your hair’s not pin straight :(

    3. Let me know when you find out.

    Bises,
    C.

Bangs in the humid summertime, keratin treatment or not, are never a good idea. I speak from experience! Hold that thought until September.

I always wanted to have bangs, but my hair was too curly. Few year ago it went straight, so I cut it and at the end had bangs. As previously said, summer is not the right moment to do this, first because of humidity and second because it look a little bit strange after swimming, or when you want tie it in a bun (if not blown), so enjoy the summer and you’ll have a couple months to decide.
    XO

  • Seriously, that girl just does not age. She looks fabulous with bangs.

I’m a big fan of them myself. You should go for it, Garance. If you’re not sure about them, you could always have just a few pieces cut short in the front so if you want you could also pin them to the side without it being too noticeable.

  • johanne May, 31 2013, 12:36 / Reply

    Garance,
    Bises et bon we

  • her secret to non-aging is…she’s ukrainian/serbian. russian genetics :)

Pff. Parfaite, comme toujours. J’adooore le style de cette fille !

  • Milla looks fantastic with a fringe, some woman really can wear a fringe, but for others it does not work. I tried it twice, not for me. A fringe really can make you look younger but it needs maintainance, otherwise you can end up looking like a seven year old. When I try to imagine you Garance with a fringe…. I actually can imagine that it would fit you, but….. But it might be a risky business with your hair? Maybe not after the keratin treatment? I don’t know enough about that, but what if the treatment looses it’s strength and your fringe is starting to curl? Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m sure your hairdresser will know better. xxx

  • Milla, please, answer question number three.

I’m thinking about bangs lately too, but in my case the trigger was Gala Gonzalez. Anyway, I’m still doubting about ombre hair and, yes, that’s already too 2012… So I’ll probably have my bangs in 2015. :)

    Happy weekend Garance Studio!

  • I have them at the moment. I think that I look better with than without, but every time it grows out I har to make the decision again! – last time it was images from the 60s which swung me, see my post about it here; http://katiescreative.blogspot.com/2011/08/hair.html

You can totally pull it off if you want to!

I think that Keratin treatment has gone to your head, Garance….
Noooo, I was just kidding :) It would look great on you BUT it’s a hassle. Keep that in mind before you take out the kitchen scissors.

  • Noooooon!!

^^ (je me permets puisque tu demandes…)
    Bises !

T’as remarqué toi aussi!

  • Benedicte May, 31 2013, 3:26 / Reply

  • Great question No.3 :)

Quant a Milla, quelle bella !

  • but look at the eye make up! that is also super important to make a fringe work. I am also new to the fringe world, it took me ages to recognize myself in the mirror after the cut! but i like it, and it is true, it is a fuzz, it is not a easy hairstyle! the total opposite of the bun. but it is timeless, like the bun… and if it is long enough it covers your eyebrows, so less fuzz with eyebrows now! I am still in love with your curly hair, so i would vote for curls, no bangs :) although you probably look lovely with any haircut :)

  • I looooove bangs. You can play with it so many ways. I begin with a bob and bangs just above my brows with pin straight hair. Bangs grows by half an inch, pin it to the side. One inch, side sweep trim it. Then middle partition. When it grows further its a Jennifer Anniston. Next comes a boho. You can play with the bang length and rest-of-your-hair length. If you are in a hurry, straighten the bangs and leave the rest wavy. OR bun it and get a retro beehive. IT’S SUPER FUN! AND easy to cut/trim on your own.

  • I love bangs so much! Now I don’t have but I’m thinking about. Honestly, I don’t know if I would see you with bangs, your haircut is so cute, wait a bit.
Milla has always been one of my favorite models, she’s so beautiful.

  • She looks gorgeous with those bangs! Every couple of years I get my bang cutting mania and it never turns out as I imagine it in my head…hmmm craving them again ;)

I wish I could wear bangs, but my face shape is too round. Milla looks great in it but I do miss her no bangs look. She looks more like her mother.

I think bangs would look good on you, but I would always consult with a professional hairdresser.

  • Bangs and naturally curly hair can be extra hard to maintain. I don’t want to talk you down from your idea, but maybe the summertime is not the best time to try out bangs. Heat + humidity = greasy bangs all over your face, really fast.

  • Amalia May, 31 2013, 9:45 / Reply

She looks great in the second pic but only due to hours of styling and makeup. Here’s my 2c about bangs…had them. Found that I always wore my hair up. Didn’t work with the boho elements in my wardrobe especially in summer (what do you do with it after a day at the beach? Always have bobby pins in your purse?) I think it’s more of a polished look and works better in a cooler climate or as an accessory for evenings when you’re out on the town with an outfit that exposes the shoulders and lots of eye make up. Some people look younger with fringes, some look older. Yes they disguise that frown line so you can skip the Botox for a month, however, if you have deep naso-labial folds (the marionette lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth) a fringe tends to emphasise these. Then of course, if you have wavy hair, you can’t leave the house without spending an extra 10 minutes blow drying it and adjusting it constantly, especially on windy days. I’ve learnt my lesson when it comes to a fringe…it’s a novelty that wears off quickly, then you’re left with the burden of growing it out for the next 6 months. It’s always tempting to cut again when your hair reaches an unflattering point and you do everything in your power not to reach for the scissors. And finally no two fringe trims are ever alike! Even a few mm in the length can mean the difference between a good fringe and a bad one.

  • bre day May, 31 2013, 10:25 / Reply

anytime i’ve given in to the urge to cut bangs, i’ve always regretted it. not only is it a pain having to trim them all the time, i have the most annoying cow-lick that makes it very difficult to have them lie right. i always end up giving up after four weeks and growing them out! i say save yourself the annoyance!!! plus, it’s summer… and nothing is worse on a hot sticky day than having hair on your forehead.

  • Agreed

  • I had bangs twice and I have pin straight hair. I love bangs. But regret sets in soon after. The grow out, the maintenance. Blah! I can’t see you in bangs but try everything once :) And summer heat and bangs don’t mix!

  • ohla, j’adore.

  • Yvonne Marie May, 31 2013, 11:06 / Reply

Milla wears short hair like no one else. She inspired me over ten years ago to cut my hair “boy-short” just from a gorgeous black and white ad. I went from long gorgeous brown locks to short short hair at 20 years old and still to this day, I absolutely loved that I did that!! I loved my short hair and so did everyone else. BUT….. You have to have a face for short hair. It’s not for everyone. I still think about doing it again. The shock factor was well worth it. It’s only hair…. It WILL grow back.

As to cutting bangs for you Garance….. I say no. It won’t look like that as you have curly hair. Gorgeous curly hair at that. Just admire girlfriend. xoxo

  • I tried a fringe and I only have slightly wavy hair and it was an absolute nightmare – it rarely did what it was told! I think a fringe doesn’t look good on really curly hair at all. Don’t do it, Garance. Your hair looks so lovely at the moment. Relax and enjoy it.

  • Ai-Ch'ng June, 1 2013, 4:45 / Reply

Been there, done that – many times!

I think everyone should try a hairstyle they hanker for: after all, hair grows back – and you may look stunning with a curly fringe. However you’ll never, never know, if you never, never go (there)… that was an Aussie Northern Territories’ holiday plug – the “Never Never Land”.

I love Angelica Houston’s trademark fringe, with those flashing dark eyes of hers.

Personally, I won’t do bangs ever again… and my hair is absolutely dead straight.

I’ve tried all the different lengths – short, longer, uneven, growin’-out, and – always – I find it is too, too hot in Australian summers for bangs… or any place where it gets warm. The loose strands blowing across my face feel like insects crawling across my forehead at times. Same in winter, when the wind blows my fringe about, because… it feels like an insect crawling across my forehead :-)

And this is just a personal thing, but I don’t like looking like all the girls who wear fringes and who continually flick the hair out of their eyes or face (when it is growing out) with their hands. All that excessive fiddling about with the fringe – especially the “neck flick / head -tossing thing” – is like seeing someone give themselves minor whiplash.

If you are like me – wearing beanies when it is very cold, and donning hats when summer days are too bright – your bangs always look look crumpled and sad when you take off your head gear.

Most of all, I like having nothing on my face or around my ears (all pulled back, up and away is my thing) because I adore feeling the sun’s love on my forehead (don’t care about wrinkles) and the blustery winds all over my face… and the fact that my husband can kiss me on the forehead without having to fuss with pushing my hair aside, or getting hair up his nose :-)

    Hi,
I have this special love for Milla cause she and I are the same age, and I stumbled upon the world of fashion when I was a little kid and picked up a Seventeen magazine. A 13 year old Milla was on the cover.
Last Summer (2012) I ran into her at the Park Hyatt in Paris. She really was beautiful.
Back to Garance’s story…the bob on Milla looks very cool. The bangs look very cool.
If I had straight thick hair, I’d be the girl with the bangs. A HUNDRED PERCENT.

Garance, wouldn’t it be double maintenance to have a Keratin treatment, then a bob, then bangs?
If it’s no trouble, and your curls won’t return too soon please go for the bangs.

Milla looks twenty eight…not fifteen…but that’s still spectacular!!!!!

  • Cohiba June, 1 2013, 6:39 / Reply

  • I always thought bangs were nice, but obscured the face a bit too much for me. I find the eyes and eye bows the most important feature of a woman’s face, so eyebrows hidden behind bangs are not such a good thing or me.

No bangs for you. I think you will look nicer without them. You would have to do a total look, reminiscent of an early Vidal Sasoon cut.

  • YES! LOVE bangs. I do think they’d look great on you, but definitely consult with your stylist. I have to echo the comments about the humid weather – was a very steamy day here yesterday, and I had to take the flat-iron to them. It just didn’t look quite right, I prefer to just blow them straight. And the upkeep, you have to be committed to frequent trims to keep them looking good. Thankfully a good stylist will perform trims gratis. They are not for everyone, but I adore them as an easy way to update your look, and also an easy thing to grow out, or change up if you want to.

  • Beautiful, …so beautiful!

  • Beautiful!

Garance! Do it , get bangs they would be great for you.

  • Her bangs are heaven, and I actually think they’re another alternative to having a hooded eyelid because besides a smoky eye, you don’t have to do that much to your eyes because that area’s mostly covered. Maybe get a snap on bang fake thing-a-ma-jiggy to see how it looks first before doing it because if you don’t like it, it’ll take FOREVER to grow back out.

    http://www.styleinspiratrice.com

  • top photo: she resembles marie laforet, has a very mod 60’s vibe
2nd photo she made it more an updated 80’s perm
    either way she looks great!

  • I have bangs and wavy hair, and this L’Oreal styling cream is my savior! It’s called “L’Oreal Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Xtreme Straight Crème.” I don’t know why; it just makes my bangs fall into place, and I can even dry them naturally after swimming if I shampoo, condition, and use the styling cream with all the products from this line. Without this stuff, my bangs would be a nightmare! I don’t know if the shampoo is sulfate-free, so it might not work for your treated hair, Garance–but you could always do a different shampoo and use the conditioner and this styling cream. It might make it really easy for you to style your new fringe! I say go for it!

  • hmmm i personally think her bangs look awesome, in a very laid-back, nonchalant, “cool kids on the block” way. And i think you should really try having bangs! It really brings something different to a face. I’ve had bangs since forever. I secretly think that my forehead keeps all my “secret” hahaha!

    Cheers from Jakarta,
    SUPERNICE

  • Love bangs… but is a big trouble to fix them right lol!

  • To tell the truth, I could hardly recognize Mila…Her shift in style is simply estonishing!!! I like these ear rings and dark smoky makeup. Evee though Mila’s outfit is very simply she looks great!!!!!!!!
I think the main secret of her new look is proper choice of makeup and accessories such as earings. To some extend they look like oriental but they are amazing…

  • Bangs are always a good idea!! please show us!
