Patchwork

8 years ago by

Has anyone ever given you something, a piece of clothing or otherwise, and it’s really become a part of your style? Maybe not something you thought you would wear originally but, when you paired it just the right way, it actually was that thing you’d been missing?

Liana has these insane vintage jeans with pink Elvis patchwork on them (even that description is odd!), but what makes them extra special is her friend Phil Oh gave them to her… Don’t you love thoughtful, stylish friends? She told me a little bit about how she’s made these jeans her own…

“If I’m wearing something a little extreme, like these Elvis jeans, I usually pair it with a simple t-shirt – usually knotted- to bring the look back down to earth. As for the jewelry, everything is vintage except for a ring that my co-worker gave me. Other than that, most of the remaining pieces are from my mom who is an antiques dealer and has found them everywhere from yard sales, flea markets, to trailer parks. Till this day, I can’t leave house without them.”

Really, the idea here is that even with something a bit unique you can make it feel simple enough for everyday, but not like you’re not blending in when you were trying to stand out because we are all individuals searching for our own identity!!!. It reminds me of G’s Miu Miu pumps – you know those crystal embellished numbers? Great as an object on a shelf really (like 80s art!), but also best suited with an ensemble a bit more simple.

It’s something to keep in mind when your eye is going towards those leopard boots or  that sequined stripe top– they’re great, really! Just don’t go overboard. A t-shirt and jeans never looked so good as when worn with just one pop detail.

  • So cool! But Elvis jeans might be too much for Indonesia…. We are all a bit judgemental here :(

  • my mom had a denim line in the 80s and they were the first to do crazy patchwork — so funny to see it back in!

  • Wow! If I saw these pants on the rack, I’d probably say they’re tacky. But this girl managed to pull them off! This simple tee and vintage jewelry make the jeans wearable. I have to get out of my shopping comfort zone and go for something like that, it would definitely turn heads!

  • Mon commentaire n’est pas à diffuser mais il y a une grosse faute d’orthographe dans la traduction française.
    “C’était exactement ce qu’y vous manquez” .. -> ce qu’il vous manquait.
    Ca fait mal aux yeux mais ça arrive ;)

    I love the idea of pairing heavy vintage jewelry with everyday pieces like jeans and t-shirts. I also love silver paired with grey. As for the Elvis jeans, it wouldn’t be working any other way, the look is amazing, however needs some guts to pull it off! I do not think I own anyhting that outrageous and hard to style but I trully wish I did :-)

  • Super cute! That jeans are everything!!! Need

  • Ça fait beaucoup de fautes d’orthographe… mais les photos sont très jolies! ; )

  • le jean passse impec mais les fautes piquent les yeux. C’est souvent, en ce moment, et c’est dommage.

    My son and mom bought be a beautiful outfit for me birthday but it just didn’t work. I was so sad. Mom took me back to the store to find something else. She spotted this striped poncho wrap. I loved the colours and it reminded me of this surfer sort of style but I couldn’t figure it out. I stressed and pulled and stared at it but me mom loved it. I took it home. It say folder for awhile but one night I paired it with very basic almost boring stuff and I felt amazing and just loved it. It’s a big favorite ever since. Glad I trusted her judgement.

  • Those jeans are amazing. Who wouldn’t wear those.
