It’s like an old no-no in fashion, but I’ve always thought it works.
Brown is such a rich winter color that feels more modern mixed with black. Especially when its with a cool jumpsuit like Brianna is wearing.
And sneakers of course!

I’ve been pairing them for years too. I feel it “grounds” the look, tones down the severity of black-on-black. In fact, right at this moment I’m wearing black pants and brown boots and just had someone compliment my outfit, so I must be doing something right!
I love this look, the colors are great for winter…but most of all I love the jacket!

…and I probably should add that I’m a redhead too. Maybe that’s part of the reason that color pairing works for me, like some of the other commenters have noted.

Le marron associé au noir était la combinaison de couleurs préférée de Madame Hélène Rochas, ai-je un jour lu mais je ne sais plus où ? Et j’aime beaucoup aussi.
Brown and black is like the blue and black used to be a very bad taste and now we even find it elegant…I remember groing up my mom will cordonate the same earring color like her cloth and bag and it was absolutely elegant than it became bad taste… Fashion has always worked on cycle .what looks great today will be bad taste tomorrow …..so I believe we should have fun and enjoy with fashion …

I am not a fan of brown, although when I had chestnut hair i used to be…but I am a fan of breaking rules and for Brianna rule breaking behavior was worth it, this outfit is great.

I grew up thinking mixing black and brown was taboo, but as I’ve gotten older I feel like sometimes this combo can work. Sometimes I see people combine the two, and it doesn’t look so great. Not sure what the boundaries are. I think a thick brown belt can highlight a summery black dress. I don’t think I’d feel the same about a black Oxford shirt with brown pants, though.

I hate to say this. But everything works on beautiful girls who look model-esque. Like Birks. Or running shoes. They are total mom shoes everywhere ! but when these gorgeous minimal/normcore fashion bloggers wear em, or the models wear them, they can pull them off.
Not for everyone.
The fashion rules are meant to be guidelines for being universally flattering. Please pick not-so-drop-dead gorgeous people to demonstrate such break in rules next time ?

When I moved to Milan years ago I noticed many women wearing brown & black and navy blue & black. I thought it was practical and chic. Never have stopped wearing it.

I have mixed feelings about this combo although I do wear it sometime… I think it very much depends on the kind of brown…
Je pense que c’est purement américain de penser que le mélange marron et noir est incohérent, les françaises l’ont toujours fait, comme de mélanger le bleu marine et le noir (voir Mme Inès de la Fressange).

I agree with this colour combination, but the brown has to be rich, like a dark whiskey or chocolate-y brown. I feel the same way about navy blue and black. Awesome!!

I totally agree with Ojla nd Archana, it works because she’s a redhead and a model! If I wore the same look (1.63, let’s say not skinny, and 45 yrs old), I’d look dull, to say the least..

Jeune française que je suis, l’association noir-marron ça ne m’a jamais choqué, mais alors une règle avec le marron : pas de kaki ni de rouge/bordeaux. C’est peut être juste un fantasme interdit dans mon petit guide de la bienséance mais c’est pas chic, on est d’accord? Je ne saurai même pas expliquer pourquoi tiens..
