Tadao Ando

Tadao Ando

Creation is fighting. That’s the philosophy of Tadao Ando, one of the world’s leading architects — and he applies that mentality to his way of approaching design. You must push forward, always.

It’s no secret that I love architecture, but I found this video so personally inspiring. Ando’s buildings are pieces of art, but it’s his take on New York and on life that personally affected me. A man who wants nothing more than to “make architecture that has that kind of subtle sensitivity” is, to me, a true artist.

He recently designed a building here, close to the studio in New York, and he made it so that light and water were treated like living things — to develop “something that touches human hearts and leaves a feeling inside those hearts.”

I suppose he is more than an architect; he’s a poet. I know that sounds a little abstract, but it’s true. It’s evident in this video that takes you through his most recent and truly beautiful structure…

I am so glad you bring architecture on a fashion blog. It goes so well together.

  • The best architecture is absolutely poetry, and Ando is one of the best at the craft. Glad to find someone else who understands. Thank you for posting.

  • :)

  • Absolutely beautiful! New York and New England are amazing for this, I’m headed to Portugal soon- my first time in Europe and I am so excited!

    Warm Regards,

  • Portugal is beautiful. Hope you have a great time! The more historic architecture in Lisbon is really incredible, as well as the cobble stone streets that feel as though you’re walking through history in some beautiful way.

    Enjoy, Alexandra!

  • I’m a fashion designer but I was trained as an architect. Both disciplines have so much in common. I experience it first hand day by day. Every creative process is a battle. I strongly recommend Steven Pressfield’s War of Art. It changed my life and how i approach my work for the better.

I truly love your contribution to this blog. It’s a sophisticated breath of fresh air. Keep up the good work, Neada.

  • Thank you, Elisabeth. So lovely of you to say.
I am looking up War of Art right now!

  • Si tu veux discuter Architecture, je serai à New York la dernière semaine d’Août (d’habitude je suis en Corse mais cette année changement de programme)…Je peux te conseiller des lectures et des lieux à visiter.
