There are certain spaces that, upon entering, just make sense. Whether or not you understand how they came to be perfectly put together with interesting items, objects, and belongings scattered about seems irrelevant amid the furniture and decor you could have sworn you saw somewhere in a dream. Alix Thomsen has one of these spaces. The perfect balance of eclectic charm and understated elegance which exist seamlessly amongst the quintessential Parisian detailing – tall white walls, crown molding, herringbone floors…
Perhaps it’s Alix’s background that has afforded her the ability to build such an engaging space. Beginning with her eponymous clothing label and then spiraling into a full blown interior career, which impressively includes designing Paris’ Hotel Du Temps, visual design (and the execution of said design) seems to be engrained in her.
Even beyond the colorful bookshelves, large leather couch, and stained decorative mirrors, it’s the quirky details that make Alix’s home truly something special. Like a surfboard wearing a headdress and an Empire State Building model – I have no doubt that her young daughter Blanche, with whom she shares her home, will tell stories of these details well into adulthood.

If Parisian apartments weren’t the ideal mix of everything I love in interior design, I’d be definitely becoming a huge fan of them right now. This apartment is stunning. Fresh, laid back and with all those Parisian features that I can’t stop thinking about. (sigh ;)

I’m ageing myself in saying this but I’ve been following Garance’s work for the better part of a decade. I love her aesthetic, energy and how the blog has grown into such a special community. How time flies!
I would, however, be remiss if I didn’t mention that I’m deeply surprised and disappointed to see a war bonnet stylized in the home of a white, blonde Parisian woman. War bonnets are certainly beautiful, however they are utterly sacred to many indigenous peoples in North America. With many high profile condemnations of celebrities for using something so sacred as ‘fashion’ I’m quite surprised that the team here was unaware to the point of overlooking this fact. The war bonnet is a symbol of strength and spirituality for a people that have suffered genocide at the hands of settlers.
Please, continue to spread beauty through this community. But educate yourselves. This is not appropriate.

I completely agree with this comment and it’s dissappointing to see that a year later the picture is still used in the story (and referenced in the article). Hopefully next time the editors will be more sensitive to these kinds of issues.
