It may be summer and sure, we’re meant to indulge in massive salads and bowls of watermelon, but with three new Italian restaurants to try in New York, it seems like even more reason to embrace the old-time Italian culture in the city….
Perhaps I’m biased (since Scarr is an old friend) , but Scarr’s Pizzaria is THE cool new neighborhood spot, channeling old-school New York and serving up slices with its own milled flour and tomatoes onsite. OH, and the vegan kale salad is on point!

Elegantly utilitarian, Pasquale Jones boasts pizzas from a wood-burning oven dappled with black Taggiasca olives and rich spoonfuls of marina sauce. Plus pastas like the baby goat papparadelle!

Altro Paradiso is thoroughly Italian, serving dishes from North to South with a lighter flair. And, his crew are making pasta and sausages in house, guessing they pair nicely with the wine from italian producers!

They crossed the bridge, the other way, just to bring the LES Speedy Romeo. Turning out St. Louis inspired, perfectly charred pizzas, it’s a 90s vibe where the pies have kitschy names like The Dangerfield.

Feeling fancy? Try Impero Caffé for an all-day Italian menu with dishes like pappardelle with braised rabbit and mint. Hop to it!

PS!! Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten (of ABC Kitchen and about 30 other delectable restaurants) is planning a new Italian restaurant in a hotel on the Lower East Side…. just one more pizza to look forward to!
