Yes – you know the ones. The reworked denim phenomenon from Vetements. Its been 2 years and not only are they still desirable, they were seen more than ever during fashion week – that instant “outfit maker.” Since their debut, they’ve transformed into an even more artisanal worked pattern – yet remain just as wearable and apparently, flattering for most figures….Go figure!
At first glance, I loved them – something different, erring on eco (the original pairs were made from two pairs of vintage levi’s laboriously put together), something reminiscent of Maison Martin Margiela, and above all, just plain cool. But a jean with such a high price tag – how could that continue to succeed in a marketplace filled with copycats at every corner?
Like any smart brand, Vetements will surely move on (in one finding online, head designer Demna said they were thinking of making a pattern available online so you could make your own – if that isn’t catering to the masses, I don’t know what is!) and whatever they come with next will most assuredly demand just as many die-hard followers.
Cut your own or splurge on the original? Maybe the choice won’t be so hard after all …

I think it’s always wonderful when people make their own clothes, so the pattern idea sounds great.
We had sewing lessons at school and I am so glad that I know the basics but I so wish that I was better at sewing!
Burda magazine was huge here when I grew up. I still buy it sometimes.

En attendant je me contente de mon jean préféré qui se bonifie avec le temps (il commence juste à s’élimer aux genoux et tout naturellement !)

These wide cropped pants bother me because they seem to only look good on teeny tiny fashion people. I struggle to wear wide cropped pants and not feel stumpy and short.

J’adore ce genre de vêtements ! Aux Puces de Clignancourt, on peut trouver une toute petite échoppe où un jeune créateur upcycle des très vieux denims pour en faire des petits chef d’oeuvres simple et en même temps précieux.
L’usure d’un vêtement devient trésor et mémoire ! Je m’égare un peu… En tout cas, je suis fan !

I truly love the design but I’d not in a million years pay that kind of price for the pair of denim. There are so many people living in poverty and the money could provide meals for so many. I would love the pattern, though. I’ve the best tailor :)
