Cali-cool. I think that’s how Nina could be described after just one meeting. A stylist and friend to Daphne, their likeness in uncomplicated dressing and chill demeanor is delightful to be around. Nina lives in Santa Monica, CA – a perfect bohemian abode filled with souvenirs from her world travels, and pieces her ever-crafty Italian mother has helped her amass.

Perhaps a sense of style really does run in the blood, if so – we would know exactly where Nina’s inspired mix of antique costume jewelry worn with Japanese designers like Yohji & Comme comes from. It may then be no surprise that her appetite for vintage clothing is vast, but she always styles herself to make the whole look feel fresh – just like Nina. Maybe it’s her blonde hair and tanned skin. Either way, we’re so happy to introduce you to her…

Describe your style in three words.
Classic, Romantic, Californian

In what way does your personal style carry through to your styling work?
I try and step outside my personal style to accommodate the situation and person I am working with. How I dress myself is not necessary going to be how I dress someone else. Everyone is different and I see myself more as a facilitator of beauty and chicness.

Do you have a fashion muse?
Carla and Franca Sozanni, Paramahansa Yoganada, Millicent Rogers, and Jerry Hall to name a few.

Is there anything you would never wear?
I never say never.

Tell us about your favorite vintage piece? Do you remember where and when you got it?
I have so many it’s difficult to pick one. I buy mostly vintage for myself and inherit a lot from my mother. It sometimes sits in my closet for over a year and then I love to go back and rediscover. Currently obsessing over a Jean Paul Gaultier jacket from the Rabbi Chic Collection because who doesn’t want to look like a chic rabbi?

Would you say your style is Californian?
Yes. I think there is a level of freedom in California when it comes to style. That has a lot to do with the weather and not having to deal with the elements because you’re just getting in and out of your car. Also beach culture and all that. California style to me is really about mixing high and low, fancy and casual. For example, a flea market find mixed with a designer piece.

How has your style evolved since you first started in the industry?
I am constantly reconsidering, expanding, and developing my ideas about style. I like to think of myself as someone who is not too influenced by trends. Exposure to new things has created a natural progression in my work and developing my personal style is an on going process. It really is a matter of trial and error, figuring out what works best for me – what makes me feel sexy, comfortable, beautiful…style is so personal and to me is such a fun form of creative expression.

Is there a decade that you look to most for style inspiration?
Whether I like it or not, I am a child of the 90s so I am most influenced by that decade. Although the 1970s and 1980s are very inspiring to me.

Which designers do you most admire?
Currently really inspired by Rifat Ozbek, Romeo Gigli, Jean Paul Gaultier, Azzedine Alaia, Muiccia Prada, Christophe Lemaire, TOME, Nehera, and The Row.

What is your favorite outfit of the moment?
I love dresses right now and playing up femininity but mixed with menswear, romantic with streamline or oversized silhouettes. I love Celine’s Babouche V neck slipper with everything.
