Style Story with Jhoanna Marissa

3 years ago by

We are in Topanga, California today to check in on Jhoanna Marissa, founder of Willa Creative. Founded in 2012, Willa Creative is a Latina-founded, women-led digital-first studio that specializes in branding, web design, and content. Jhoanna is always interested in cultivating connection through design and technology while supporting women talent everywhere.

How would you describe your style in three words?
Feminine, modern, versatile

How does Topanga and Venice Beach influence your style?
Topanga is great for wearing flowy pieces around the house and outside since it’s always relaxed and warm. Being able to still go into my office in Venice during the week I get to dress for the office and a more energetic surrounding. I always have extra shoes to go for a walk or a skate at the beach in my converse and dress. Having both lets me dress for up, down, casual, or professional.

Do you think your fashion style influences your interior style? Or vice versa?
Yes, I think my style influences everything from my home, to my wardrobe, to my work. I like creating a space and experiences that are modern and minimal, with noticeable accents throughout. That same style sentiment goes into the way I design my home and workspaces and also the way I tend to approach the creative website projects I do.

How has the past year of quarantine changed your approach to dressing?
The number of cotton and cashmere sets I now own… I’m sure this is the same for everyone else post 2020. But from Pangaia, to DONNI, to Aime Leon Dore – the number or sets I now own is a very new addition to my closet. I wear heels less often so my hunt for sneakers and flats is at an all-time high. I also leaned into earrings, necklaces and lip tints more with Zoom being such a prominent part of my days. Other than that – I made it point to continue to get up and get dressed for the day. My morning coffee, beauty and dressing routine is a favorite part of my day, so I knew to keep it going early on during quarantine.

What is the most treasured piece of clothing in your wardrobe?
Jewelry passed down from my mom is most treasured. Very classic, gold pieces and pendants that I will keep forever. And my wedding dresses. I found all my dresses from this great vintage shop called Happy Isles. They worked so well for my wedding in Spain. They were unique and feminine but with classic silhouettes. I have worn my rehearsal dinner dress again since.
