The Sneakers!

As far as sneakers are concerned, I like to call myself a “purist”. All right, that doesn’t mean anything at all, but let me dream – and explain to you: I am not really into “designer sneakers.”
For sports clothes, I like my Nikes and Adidas and I look at the Lanvin sneakers with a raised brow. I do accept (seriously?) the Rick Owens sneakers, which are sort of an insitution and really have a specific shape, as well as the Isabel Marant, because she totally created the trend, whether you like it or not…
Oh and I am not opposed to collabs like Vans x Kenzo, I do approve (and there we go, she thinks she’s the Fashion Police).
(On a side note who launched the trend of the little cross to signal collaborations? Where does that come from?)
ANYWAY.
I had started to waiver in my Nikes the day Valentino launched their camo sneakers though. Just because, well. Too beautiful.
And I totally surrendered to the designer shoe trend when I found these by Pierre Hardy at Colette. Argh. I would’ve done anything for them.
(I bought them in the men’s section, no shame, those long feet have to be good for something !)
I mean come on!!! Sneakers with holes!!! Who is the genius who invented that ?
Well, it’s Pierre Hardy, and he totally got my purism. Ah Pierre, I do not thank you.

yeah! long feet are greaaat! and sneakers too! (haha, two days ago I wrote a post about my pink Vans :))
A mon avis, la croix pour la collaboration vient de l’italien où dans toutes les abréviations, on écrit “x” pour “per”. Donc Vans x Kenzo veut dire “Vans per Kenzo”
En anglais, le X se dit “by” (en tout cas dans les multiplications), donc “par”
D’où le X !
Pour la petite croix : c’est une manière raccourcie d’écrire “&”. A force de l’écrire ça donne un truc comme ” ?X ” (= & – la tête du &). Puis pour simplifier, ça a donné : “x” !

When I go to the gym I can see everybody wearing multi-color sneakers (with some touch of fluor included) but I am purist as well… in the sense I design my sneakers in the Nike web page (the name of the section is ID) in only one color… People ask me where they come from when I walk on the street and at the gym … can you believe it?
At the moment I am wearing a pair of totally-red ones, actually, I call them “Ferrari-red” sneakers, they are awesome, I wear them with a full-dark outfit ….
They’re really nice! I’m a fan of GoldenGoose, from Italy. Check their website, think you’ll like them too….

Usually I also stick to “real” sneaker brands as well. I think of them as staples. But this shoe you found could CLEARLY NOT be mistaken as any sneaker. They’re so cool!!!

What r u wearing them with…..i had to by a pair….because i have to fit my toe….so I ended up buying pieces from lululemon…it will be my uniform for a few weeks …so my image will be sports injury instead of killer shoes lol
I believe that in the field of genetics the “x” means a cross, or hybrid, of two lines (with different ancestry)- so it makes sense in fashion too!
ehhhh… I’d actually say that Martin Margiela created the sneaker trend. Marant certainly revived it, but Margiela has been doing the high-fashion sneaker for far longer. It is also going to stick around after the Bekket’s had its heyday.
I can’t believe you haven’t always been into designer sneakers. Oh my god, they are an addiction of mine. I can’t pass by Barney’s for fear that a pair of sneakers will catch my eye.

Le “x” en anglais se lit “by” genre quand tu multiplie, tu dis 4×4 , four by four. Donc la, c’est Vans By Kenzo… De rien.

I beg to differ ! Derek Lam avait fait des baskets à trous mille fois plus jolies pour l’été 2011! que j’ai trouvées chez Barneys! mais elles étaient noires!
Désolée, mais c’est juste ce que je déteste ! J’évite au maximum de porter des baskets, quand je dois marcher beaucoup je mets des mocassins Prada ou Tod’s qui sont de vrais pantoufles, ou certains modèles Hogan, et l’été des tennis Superga en toile blanche.
True. I have the tendency to get it from the real makers. Like for sports, go to Nike or Adidas; for sunnies there’s Rayban; Jeans? there’s Levis. But sometimes its really good to explore the innovators who may not have started it all but created something marvelous from the one already existing. As for designer sneakers? Im still in doubt if they will last (I mean the trend).

Les baskets, douce drogue… Moi je suis folle des new balance, les nouveaux modèles sont à tomber!
Elles sont chouettes ! C’est vraiment le retour des baskets blanches, d’ailleurs ils ont ressortis les Americana chez Adidas (les baskets culte de mon adolescence), en fait les sneackers, running etc c’est un peu notre madeleine de Proust !

You read an x as “by” in English. So Vans x Kenzo is read as Vans by Kenzo
Tu la connais la débile qui a fait une fixette sur les running fluos apres son retour de NewYork?! Bah oui c’est MOI!!! Et donc je me suis lancée à la recherche de celles vu là bas et je les ai trouvé pour mon plus grand bonheur!
J’ai pris des Nike Free Fit! Pour moi qui adore marcher c’est vraiment le top! Et c’est en plus très joli avec une minijupe noir et un blazer! ;)

Les baskets sont cruciales pour parcourir le monde!
Moi aussi j’ai longtemps été sur la réserve lorsque des créateurs avaient l’outrecuidance de mettre leur nez dans un domaine qui n’est pas le leur, celui des chaussures de sport.
En même temps, l’avantage d’une paire de baskets de créateurs, c’est que cela offre une originalité dans le design sans que le modèle ne soit saccagé par la présence d’un logo. Je HAIS les logos. Je ressens un profond sentiment de honte si je dois arborer un vêtement ou accessoire affublé d’une virgule, de trois bandes ou d’un crocodile. C’est pour cela que, désormais, je m’approvisionne chez H&M pour faire du sport. Leur collection actuelle est absolument géniale. Les matières sont de qualité et les coupes et couleurs très chouettes.
Bref, revenons aux baskets. Depuis qu’Isabel Marant a lancé son modèle de baskets compensées, c’est le bonheur. En fait, je devrais dire : depuis qu’elle a été copiée. Car si je trouve les baskets de Marant souvent un peu lourdes, les Manhattan de chez Serafini, par exemple, sont parfaites.
Donc, oui aux baskets de créateurs. Même si cela donne quand même le sentiment de se faire un peu avoir en ce qui concerne le prix (mais pas plus qu’avec les marques traditionnelles de sport, après tout).
Bon choix, pour les Pierre Hardy !

Tu vas voir comme les chaussures à trous, c’est très désagréable : en effet, tu vas les porter saans chaussettes, des poussières ou pire petits cailloux vont venir dans tes pieds et malgrè une sorte de danse en jetant ton pied dans l’air pour extirper la chose, tu ne pourras pas car cela tient du miracle que de le faire sortir de ta chaussure. Je me suis fais piéger l’été dernier et plus jamais !!

Streetwear blogs like Hypebeast have been using the “x” for collabos for years but where they got it from, I do not know.
Je suis italien et je confirme que la “x” vient du italien: en mathématiques on lit le “x” “per” que est aussi la traduction du mot français “pour”. C’est pourquoi nous abrégeons avec ce symbole! ;)

Quand il s’agit de fringues de sport, j’aime en rester à mes Nike et Adidas et je regarde les baskets Lanvin avec le sourcil levé. Je tolère aussi (non mais vraiment n’importe quoi la fille) les baskets Rick Owens, qui sont une institution en elle-même et qui ont vraiment une forme originale, ainsi que les Isabel Marant, parce qu’elle a vraiment lancé un truc nouveau, qu’on aime ou qu’on n’aime pas…!! c’est vraiment très intéressant!!
