A Plaid Zara Scarf

I’m having my grunge moment…
Also known as, I’ve found myself gravitating towards more plaids. I’m about the least grunge person you’ll ever meet, but I can’t seem to help myself. I bought this scarf at Zara in Paris (which makes it sound so much fancier, even though it’s at every Zara here in NYC…) and it has barely left my side, even though it’s not really blanket scarf weather here yet. Are you embracing grunge plaid this fall?

Pas du tout!! Personnalement je n’ai marre du tartan qui maintenant avec le moment Grunge est par tout, mais pour un ou deux chemises et cette écharpe j’aime ( ouais, je sais contradictoire haha… mais bon le tartan partout NON
Yes, plaid is still (always maybe even?) good.
I don’t really care for the whole grunge trend though and actually I associate plaid more with a bit of a snobbish style. It’s all in the combinations you make I guess!

Yep! I bought a red and black plaid stop from Zara last week – it even has zippers! I love it, especially with a smokey eye.

J’ai déjà l’écharpe qui ne me quitte jamais en ce début d’automne. Facile à assortir, à la fois passe-partout, indémodable et cool. L’écharpe qui a tout pour plaire !

I have this scarf and I love it. It’s the perfect shade of red and a great tartan print.
I live in Australia but bought this in Europe. The weather is 30 degrees and sunny practically everyday here at the moment but I’m craving cooler weather so I can whip it out.

“Bien qu’étant sans doute la personne la moins grunge de la planète, c’est plus fort que moi.” Ce petit passage m’a fait sourire! Pour moi le tartan est avant tout lié au souvenir des kilts que j’ai porté enfant dans un contexte très, très “tradi” et dont je n’ai réussi à me libérer qu’après une rébellion vestimentaire radicale -Je portais tout le temps le même jean car je refusais de mettre tous les autres vêtements achetés pour moi, efficace! (Pour le reste, tout rébellion autre que vestimentaire m’a paru impossible.) Mais, je reconnais que le tartan a aussi pris une connotation grunge-rock par la suite… Et je pense que Burberry en a joué et en joue à nouveau aujourd’hui avec le retour du grunge! Personnellement, je crois qu’il n’y a que la mini jupe qui puisse me faire oublier le kilt!
Comme quoi, nous vivons la mode aussi avec des souvenirs et notre passé. Mais, cela n’est pas un enfermement: la mode nous emmène constamment ailleurs. Elle mélange et hybride. Et nous pousse à jouer avec notre personnalité. C’est pour ça que je l’adore!
Saw this in Zara weeks ago and gasped in happiness. Loving the two-sided tartan, what a great twist to the traditional,… with the extra 2-in-1 bargain price feeling. Also, eventhough i’m a cashmere addict, this one is actually not itchy at all. And, makes me feel even better that Garance approves!
Personally i always I look for generous size scarves like this one to keep me cosy, compared to the ‘normal’ size, which, in winter, feels more like you’re wearing a tie.
Saying all that tartan love, this is probably as far as i would go to be involved in the trend, otherwise it feels like i need to swap the Prada bag with a bagpipe.

The scarf is cute indeed, but I’m getting everyday more and more frustrated of the abuse of the “grunge” qualification. I mean, if we try to get back to the 90’s spirit of the grunge, a scarf wouldn’t be grunge because it was plaid. Grunge (to me) refers a lot to a free spirit, a way to find you clothes outside of traditionnal stores (thrift stores etc), and more important, grunge was “against” commercial.
I love this anecdote of Kurt Cobain and Courteney Love burning the Perry Ellis “Grunge” collection designed by Marc Jacobs because it sums all that! You can’t buy grunge, whatever the magazines and the brands are telling you (and selling you).
My point is just that, could we just talk about a plaid scarf and not a grunge plaid scarf? It’s still cute, but we all have to admit that wearing destressed jeans and plaid shirt does not make us grunge… But that’s not a problem as long as we feel good in our clothes right?

Oh mon Dieu j’adoooore cette écharpe ! Je ne m’en passe plus non plus, elle est chaude et douce et tout et tout. C’est mon nouveau plaid préféré aussi parfait pour regarder la télé au chaud :)
Moi pareil, je suis attirée par le grunge en ce moment, ce qui m’étonne aussi assez d’ailleurs, mais du coup je fais très attention à ce que ça ne soit que des petites touches. très belle écharpe!

While I’m sure this scarf was designed to fit the punk & grunge trends, the scarf alone is not grunge. And if you are “the least grunge person you’ll ever meet,” it’s not really grunge then, is it? It’s just a plaid scarf. If anything, these are just classic British prints. You can wear it without talking about grunge or defending yourself, because really, it’s just a plaid scarf.
Oh, I just bought the same one! I already feel it will be the best piece for the upcoming cold weather!
