Art of Christopher Kane
9 years ago by
I love when my two favorite things, fashion and art, collide.
Last season, after seeing the Matisse show at MoMA, I couldn’t help but notice the presence of cutouts on the runway. And, at London Fashion Week this season, Christopher Kane incorporated contour drawings in his collection that reminded me, once again, of Matisse but also of work by Picasso, Rodin and many others. Kane’s illustrations add a sense of life and movement to the collection, but what I love most is how they evoke the beauty of a simple, organic line.
Sometimes I think an artist’s sketch can be more powerful than the finished product.
How do you feel about fashion mimicking works of art? A cool ode to the artist, or unoriginal?
So artistic !

Fashion design is an art in itself and there´s no need to copy paintings. The dresses looks kitschy (in a bad way).

I wish to see more and more designers being inspired by good art. It’s beautiful. It’s educational. I found out a few interesting artists this way – by reading in reviews whom a collection was inspired by.

AMAZING,
I find fashion is an art which is inspired by all the others art: painting, movies, dance, music and they all are in interaction (or interconnection) for ages. Each art inspire the others and it’s the way creativity and beauty appears in my advice !!
I saw this exhibit at MoMa over Christmas and was inspired to paint murals on my walls, so am definitely feeling Christopher Kane’s tribute. Bravo!

Christopher Kane’s collection was one of my favorite from London. I loved the way he incorporated Matisse into his dresses, especially the short black dresses. I feel it was an ode to the sensuality of a woman in a way.
