Two Hands’ Acai Bowl
9 years ago by
One of my favorite places for breakfast is Two Hands, a really cute cafe that’s pretty close to the studio – and also has lifesaving coffee! Like Navy, they serve a really delicious avocado toast – but it’s their acai bowl that I love the most.
Acai bowls seem to be trending now in New York (who knew that food could trend?), but it’s because their main ingredient is the acai berry – a powerful antioxidant and “superfood” from Brazil. But, the best thing is how good it tastes – the base is a smoothie consistency of blended frozen fruit, and tastes almost like ice cream. Then the toppings add this incredible texture, and it looks so pretty I feel as though I’m almost eating art.
It’s like eating dessert for breakfast, only it’s really really good for you…
When I asked Giles and Henry, the owners, how it was made, I found out it’s actually a really simple and quick recipe – and I had to share!
Acai Smoothie Mix
1 frozen banana (chopped into inch-long pieces)
1 large handful of frozen blueberries
6 oz of almond milk
1 tbs Acai powder
1 tsp of Cacao powder
Toppings
Granola
Desiccated Coconut
Chia Seeds
Hemp Seeds
Cacao Nibs
Handful of fresh Blueberries and Raspberries
Start by adding the frozen blueberries, acai powder, cacao powder and almond milk into a blender and blend until smooth.
Add one banana piece at a time and use your blender tamper/stick to force the mixture around the blender as it thickens. After all bananas are blended it should be smooth but with a thick consistency.
Remove mix from blender into bowl, sprinkle desired toppings (the ones listed above, as all great superfoods with amazing health benefits).
Bon appétit!

I love Two Hands and especially their acai bowl!
But yes, it’s true, it’s super easy to make at home. I usually use just bananas and acai powder for the base and then go crazy with the toppings.
C’est vraiment le type de petit déj que j’adorerais prendre! Des céréales, des fruits…! <3
Des bisous
Bon dimanche

Merci. Ca a l’air super bon et c’est tellement facile à faire.
Looks great and seems easy to manage. I’ll try it next days!
Gnam gnam..merci pour la super idee..bonne dimanche à tout le monde..byebye
A great image ..i prefer preparing it at home because i know that i use only fresh fruit in the season…it’s much healthier than frozen fruit…it’s very important to know the origine of the acai to make sure you have only benefit’s…

If I may, frozen fruits are used so you get an ice cream kind of texture. You could put fresh fruits in the freezer a few hours ahead for the same result (instead of buying frozen fruits at the supermarket) or use fresh fruits, but the mix would then be warmer and with a more liquid texture. :-)
The acai bowl at Two Hands is great… BUT the PB acai bowl at Juice Generation is THEBOMB.COM/AWESOME!
OMG I am so going to have to stop in to Two Hands and it is walking distance from the office! Thanks for the heads up!

Merci pour cette recette, je la note
All this South America superfood- acai, quinoa, maca,… has due to western trending become so expensive, that the local tribes, people, farmers can no longer afford it. Everything goes to export. And that is their basic food.
So I thing really good for us should be to eat local and to think global.
Couldn’t agree more. But then it requires thinking about the consequences of our actions a little beyond the instant gratification of hypes and Instagram-able esthetics, and not everyone seems ready for this just yet…
Effectivement!

Finally, a vegan recipe ! Thanks !
Strange to see all those dry chia seeds at the time, and in such large amount in a single dish ! OK they look cute and graphic that way, but I really find them at their best when they have been soaked (preferably overnight) in some kind of liquid or creamy stuff.
top cette recette merci pour le partage !
I tried it and it`s the best acai bowl i have been able to get outside of brazil so far :) thank you so much for the recipe! http://hautenbas.tumblr.com/post/121189853646/homemade-acai-bowl-garancedore-trending
Makes me miss my Brasilian holidays, when acai smoothie was a daily drink. Yum!
