  • One of the best interviews you’ve done! Her eyeliner is legendary. Gonna try to do this on myself tomorrow (should be interesting). This woman is so interesting, because she’s seen so much, she has a very clear perspective on how things have evolved in the fashion industry.

    Sharp–in style and her observations.

  • I am in love with Costanza…officially. What a wonderful and wise perspective on fashion and beauty.

It is interesting how the pendulum does tend to swing from one direction to the next in terms of ideals of beauty. What’s new becomes old, and what’s old becomes fresh once more. What never becomes tiresome is personality, as Costanza beautifully noted. No matter the trend or season, personality is always in style, whether on or off the runway.

Well done, Garance, as always! (As far as your outfit, you selected a fantastic one to wear for your day of multiple interviews. I have not tired of it yet!)

  • There is nothing else to add!! Her views are very neat and accurate.the question is, who made gisele bundchen jump to fame? Because I recently read an article which states that mario testino was the inly one who appreciated her when the agencies said she was not editorial, was he helped by Anna Wintour?
Garance I loved the piano at the end! So beautiful :)

  • such an amazing video! she’s an incredible woman!

  • I loved this video as it is a real treat to hear the words of an experienced and wise woman. Costanza’s honesty and directeness regarding her personal life, her knowledge of the fashion business — just fantastic!.

I am BrazilianAmerican (born and raised in New York with my entire family rooted in Brazil) and want to add my impression of Brazilian culture in regards to the “mating” game. It seems to me that the pressure for women to be young looking to “compete” in this game is much greater than I see here in the U.S. So much so that I perceive Costanza as a very brave woman to have gotten to a place where she chose to know and define herself, rather than be pulled apart by this cultural bias. I may be wrong about this, but I think that Costanza’s stand is unusual in her culture. It is truly admirable and something I aspire to.

Thanks so much for this interview, Garance!

  • Dear Nansosi, that’s how I view it too. It takes a lot of guts – I just deeply admire her…!

  • It’s always a pleasure to hear Costanza talking about fashion.

  • I agree…..and to add when u see celebrities waring spring/summer 2013 it’s defaulting.

  • She is so SMART.

  • Extra smart !

  • I love Costanza. She’s wonderful!

  • I think I love her.

  • Costanza is really a fascinating character. I love the way she interprets fashion into her own personal style. It is refreshing to see someone so confident in themselves, especially in our trend worshiping society. Obviously, we all could stand to learn a lot from her. Classic…

  • Such quiet intelligent elegance…such beauty.

  • Lucy fernández October, 24 2012, 10:19 / Reply

Just worked 13 hours, came to your blog and just smile, it is a lovely talk between two lovely and talented people.

  • Costanza is an amazing woman! I am Brazilian, and I’m really proud to have such an extraordinary, respected and smart figure representing Brazil in the fashion industry worldwide. Great video Garance Dore! I love you texts and insights.

Merci!

  • Pardon my french! je suis italien…

  • The first time I read about this beautiful Lady was here in your blog and with this interview I felt that kind of respect and admiration only a women of her wisdom and experience deserves. Garance I enjoy very much each Pardon my french episode and would like to watch more interviews with your friends and fashion collègues, don’t know why you didn’t play as a tv host before?! you are so good at it! It feels really natural and you look really pretty! The evolution from the first PMF episode to this one is notorious so I hope you continue that way. My best wishes and congratulations because THIS is your moment!

  • Wow! She is such an impressive lady! So deeply observant, insightful and articulate. So great!

  • Beautiful interview! I strive for her elegance!

  • Great interview!

It mist be so nice to talk and discuss with her!

  • Xiaosquared October, 25 2012, 1:39 / Reply

wise words and blunt words. really really enjoyed this interview Garance! Wise women with strong opinions are sexier than skinny girls in victoria secret lingeries..

  • If we could all age so beautifully and stylishly. She reminds me of my grandmother – stunning and dignified. Exactly the lovely definition of what it means to be a woman. Let’s all aspire!

    Thank you for sharing!

  • What a wonderful and wise woman! It’s so interesting what she says, I could listen to her much longer! Personality is so much more important than anything! I think it’s actually the real luxury in life…..what is a woman with expensive designer clothes but no personality? A hollow and shallow fashion figure, not interesting at all. “They want personality….” was that you or Costanza saying that? Let’s hope that “having personality” is going to be more important than having long legs ;-)
You Garance and Costanza, you both got a lot of personality :-) and I love that more about you than your fabulous clothes. xxx

  • Don’t you think that’s one of the best things about PMF? In still photos everyone can look interesting, especially if they are wearing outrageous clothing, but Garance takes us one step closer and reveals more truth. In this case, they are both revealed to be treasures!

  • Love her!

Just wondering, did you guys touch the lovely fruits in the end? :)

  • Very much to the point! Congrats!

  • J’adore!

  • I love this interview, she is super chic and intelligent.

One thing I do not understand is what she is saying about Gisele Bundchen…Anna Wintour made her the new sexy girl, but really she just confirmed what Vogue was criticized for? Gisele is not like the 80s supermodels, she has a masculine face and a boyish body. She represents exactly what Clinton was talking about. Seems like she is saying Wintour did a smart thing? But making a ‘sexy’ ideal out of a boyish shape is just what they shouldn’t have. None of today’s supermodels has the appeal Claudia Schiffer, maybe except Candice Swanepoel.

Keep up the good work!

  • This is a fantastic interview especially as we start forgetting about the history and how much it is still influencing us. I think it is so interesting how she sees the models from the 90’s compared to the one we have now. Costanza is telling us things we normally could only know when we reach her age. I so want to be like her when I grow up! Constanza is iconic! And what a great perspective on fashion and the world. As a brazilian I’m proud to see this true woman, a woman that really own herself, out there. Thanks, Garance, for the great interview!

  • love this lady.
nice interview – very interesting aspect of the fashion world and how it changed.
    cheers, s.

  • Quelle classe !

I wish the interview was muuuuch longer! It seems that she has so much to say and even while talking to you can see how elegant she is not trying to say all that I’m sure she knows in a hurry…not trying to impress. Slowing down and taking her time is exetremely elegant for me. True true Woman! Thank you Constanza, you are beautiful!

  • I loved it!!!!
I’m posting looks from Los Angeles and fall accessories:

  • It’s so lovely to hear Costanza speak, she is so wonderfully eloquent! Thanks so much Garance for giving us the chance to catch a glimpse of the real people behind the photo’s we so often see. Merci!!

  • I watched this interview about 10 times today! And learned heaps! I’m ready to age gracefuly and be proud of my age and experince in front of much younger coleaques… and just live to be happy not to be succesful…
I recently learned a lot from your interviews, the best thing about your blog is you let us interact with wise women!

    J`AIME Constanza (:

  • Oh goodie! Part 2!! :D

  • i think this one is by far my favourite video, every word comes from her mouth is inspirational!

  • Oh my God! Did I forget to THANK YOU COSTANZA for this interview?!! Shame on me!

  • Hi Garance!

Thank you for giving us wonderful interviews that leave me, as a woman, feeling empowered and thrilled to embrace age gracefully. Love Costanza!!

I wanted to ask you Garance, if you could please, pretty please, make a video of how you make your hair bun? I love how it looks, so feminine, so chic and so careless and not stiff. Please please?

Also I wanted to tell you the first thing I noticed about you ages ago when I started seeing your photos around were your hands. I’ve always been drawn to hands and thought you had such beautiful feminine hands. It was funny to see your post about how you hate your right hand. I see no difference at all. I suppose we each see ourselves very differently from how other see us. Your gestures and long lanky beauty (you look tall) is very beautiful, and I wanted to compliment you on how pretty you are, your gestures and your way of carrying yourself, and the way you talk. I am 39 and a mom to girls, and you inspire me so much!

Thank you again and really, please, show us how you do your hair?!

    XO

She is fantastic and she has a very interesting life. If you want To deep in her life I recommend you her daugther’s blog, called Consuelo blog. Please, go there and click her mother’s name: Constanza Pascolato and you can discover a real human being

  • What an inspiration. What a presence. This was a great interview.
It’s so refreshing to hear women talk about skinny models from an unbiased perspective. So many women blame the girls and project their own insecurities on them. I loved hearing her learned and factual take on the question.

  • I love her! This really makes me want to age with dignity and style. A very smart woman! Thank you for sharing.

    Best,

  • When I first saw her pictures I thought photographers were using her for the cliche “fashion at any age” story. I’m so glad you decided to interview her and let her personality truly shine, this is by far the best interview yet! She’s pure class.

  • Perfect and lovely interview. Great.

    http://fashiondenis.blogspot.sk/

Too short video!!!! Costanza has seen it all!!! Very elegant while remaining modest which is a rarity in today’s world… She is correct about luxury being kaput – when it is mass produced and is no longer rare AND it is merely based on astronomical prices, it loses it’s luxury “aura”. I’m also frustrated by the big conglomerates control of fashion companies. I used to be able to travel and find unique items not available at home. Now every high street is the same… Boring.

  • Catherine October, 25 2012, 3:06 / Reply

Hats off to you. This is a lovely interview, with real insight beyond fashion to the very roots of culture. I also applaud you for wearing the same outfit in these videos. It’s as if you’re saying, “It’s about the interviewee, not about me.” So, so classy. And the outfit is cute, BTW. Bravo!

  • Very interesting lady! I was glad to hear her comment on luxury in the context of the entire interview (which actually sounded more like a fascinating lecture on fashion history)!

I may be repeating what other have said but I deeply think that this interview is by far the best you have shared with us. Costanza discusses many ‘contentious’ topics ‘sans fard’ and she is naturally opinionated and at ease with herself and her ideas. I think that unlike some of the other interviewees that have graced you videos (I won’t name names…) – she has nothing to sell us – nothing to prove us and this is extremely refreshing.

Do continue to keep us on our toes by introducing us to such fabulous women(and men) that truly have something to say.

    Thanks and all the best,

    Jessik

  • amazing! she is great. mxx

  • OMG! She’s amazing! I saw her once on St Honore, some weeks ago…she is stunning! She makes you (me) look forward to growing old.

    http://www.stylishevafter.blogspot.com

  • COSTANZA PRESIDENT.

What an extraordinary woman. She is a great example on how intelligence can come across through style and allure. Everything in herself seems to be congruent: she appears honest, witty and very strong. Thank you Garance for sharing such great examples of personalities who go above and beyond the scheme of the Fashion industry, while knowing the rules and playing with them.

  • She is such an inspiration! I needed this interview-turning 60 soon and feel so lost….

  • D’accord je me lance.

  • Wonderful… fashion history alive!..Thnx

  • One of my fashion icons of all time. She is unique!

    http://stylebeginsatforty.blogspot.it/

  • I love the music on all your video’s! You should post plylists for us too! :)

  • I’ve always loved seeing her in The Sartorialist… And now this interviews… It just makes so proud to be brazilian! Did you guys speak french when the cameras werent on?

  • Quelle femme merveilleuse!!
Bonne continuation

  • What a woman. I think she sets the stake high for us, how we want to grow older.
And the interview was really great, too. I could see that you have a lot of respect for her, love that, it makes it so personal and authentic!

  • Luba Zhezmer October, 27 2012, 9:34 / Reply

Absolutely the best interview you did by far! BRAVO BRAVO!

  • Juste 10000 mercis pour cette conversation.

  • I loved this interview. Every time I hear these women talk with you, I feel like a self esteem boost come from the screen. They are involved in fashion, but they are always looking to see how fashion fits in their lives. We have to find clothes that help us tell our story, not the story of the designers.

Thank you Garance for sharing their (and your) wisdom with us.

  • Garance! I love the music that you use in these videos :)

What is that lovely jazzy bit at the end called?

  • A clash of elegance of two generations – you and Constanza! Wow!

  • Thank you, I loved this. Et j’adore ses lunettes – trops chics!

  • Thank you so very much, your blog is truly worth coming back to day after day, your kindness and humbleness connects people with such elegance and grace very interesting relevant interviews/posts.

  • To start, you always has such a lovely, easy way of addressing the people that you’re interviewing, even though they tend to be total icons that would send most into a bumbling stupor. You always approach your job with such a humbled nature that is thoughtful to the interviewee, not allowing for the fueling of the mythology that surrounds a persons status in the fashion world.
And Constanza, oh Constanza, such an incredible woman wrapped up in that confident coolness that just seeps into everything she’s wearing, even the air that moves around her just seems to slow down to soak up her presence.
There was something that really struck me about the way that she was talking about the evolution of models. It is such a prevalent question that seems to require sensitive answers that have been regurgitated numerous times in slightly different arrangements because people are always tripping over all the stigmas of healthy weight and body image, which are entirely necessary but there isn’t a way of entering into an actual consideration of why. Constanza however addresses the question in a rational way, laying out the history of how the styles have changed from the push for fresh ideas from a younger generation in the sixties to the supermodel troupe in the 80’s, heroin chic in the 90’s, to the now ‘depersonalized’ models, which she claims are bringing the attention back to the clothes rather than focusing at all on the models who wear them. Because of this logic, the question feels solved and so brings any further investigation into the evolution of the model figure appear redundant.
And anyone who can pump out a theory like that while looking so good is alright with me.

  • J’aime beaucoup sa vision des choses!
