A few weeks ago, I was invited by Dior to travel to Tokyo with their bag, the Lady Dior. It was a wonderful trip, even more so because the story of the bag helped me meet artists I would have never met otherwise.

I prefer “Pardon My French”, when the brand is Garance. The blatant advertorial nature of this episode makes me feel uncomfortable. It is beautiful, but it just feels like its pushing the Dior brand too much.
Garance, I’m speechless… This is my favorite video of the entire series! At first I gasped when you took that Sharpie to the beautiful Lady Dior, but I quickly got it–what an amazing finished product! Your experiences brought so much life and artistic creativity to the bag, I cannot tell you how special that was. What an exquisitely awesome idea to make a purse into a souvenir you can carry around ages after the actual trip or just put someplace special in your apartment! I wish I could do that but I’m afraid the Dior Lady bag is about three times as much as the cost of the trips I make. Did you get to keep the bag in the end??

Seeing the warmth of the Japanese people and you exploring those narrow streets on a bike brought tears to my eyes. I want to go back, maybe on my honeymoon. Or maybe next year for the cherry blossom season. That was one of my favorite memories. I may dig up some of those old photos and put them on my site when I get a chance.

Aaah, c’est terriblement une géniale idée, de customiser ce sac tout vierge! Faut oser, “détruire”, “désacraliser” un Dior comme cela… Le résultat est sublime.
Et la “rice ball” que tu manges? C’est du riz ou un daifuku mochi? Est ce que les japonais mangent vraiment des mochis? Comment? Où? Quand? Ou pas? Raah, j’en suis dingue.
Ma première réaction était qu’est-ce qu’elle est en train de faire avec ce saaaaac!!!!!!! Ma le résultat est merveilleux :) quelle bonne idée. Video super.

I live in Nagoya and I visit different temples during the year. One of the things I collect is an omamori from each place, hoping to return the next year to replace them with a new one as is the custom. I have them in my wallet and on my key ring, but I never thought to place them on the outside of my bag.
I also loved how you marked the places you had been to on the bag like a scrapbook you carry with you! It’s an interesting idea and I would like to try something like that as I travel around Japan and the world! Thank you for the inspiration Garance! Please don’t ever stop blogging, because this is the only way I can be inspired by you from all the way in Nagoya, Japan.

I love your video, it makes me want to buy a Lady actually! And what a great idea to personalized your bag! It is not another Lady anymore, it is yours and that makes it even more beautiful! This reminds me of Vogue interview with Jane Birkin on the bag names after her. She puts stickers on it ! She said during the interview : “I always hang things on my bags because I don’t like them looking like everyone else’s.” And she is totally right. J’aime beaucoup votre série “Pardon my French” (surtout l’épisode avec DVF dont je suis une fan absolue).
J’ai été émerveillée par cet épisode à Tokyo, ville que je rêve de découvrir.
Mais en même temps, je suis un peu mal à l’aise avec le “placement de produit” évident : j’aime vous lire parce que vous êtes impertinente, drôle et que vous faites votre propre choix à l’opposé de tant de blogs qui ne sont que des vitrines de marques qui payent les billets.
Garance, je continuerai à vous lire avec plaisir, mais soyez attentive à une éventuelle dérive (qui peut se faire à votre insu).

Cette vidéo m’a rappelé pourquoi j’ai tant enviede voyager : la découverte d’une autre culture et tous ces moments de partage, tous ces sourires. Tout ça “gravé” dans le sac, c’est une idée de génie (même si j’avoue qu’au début l’idée d’écrire sur un sac aussi cher m’a fait flippé!)
Malgré le coté marketting, le meilleur, le plus émouvant et le plus chaleureux des Pardon my french selon moi.

well, i love the dogs at the beginning of the video (i have one like those, and nothing can compete, not even a bag). i like the video itself, and the idea of turning a handbag into a personal memento. all this and more could be done to any old bag, so it’s inspiring and fun.
and (call me judgmental) i get sad when i read comments saying they want to buy a lady dior and do the same…
but dior will be pleased.

un côté promotion du sac sans en être une, ils sont fortiches chez D. mais c’est vrai qu’ils contournent les spots et stratégies pub génériques depuis qlqs tps: logique pour du luxe.
Du coup ça enlève pas mal de spontanéité des V.O de Pardon My french…
Malgré cela les images sont belles et il y a l’exotisme du Japon.

Best Idea for showcasing a brand ever! You really took the concept of a women owning a piece of fashion but not being a slave to it, instead reinventing it, making it a part of something, a reflection of being in Tokyo! And I much prefer the finished product..Id love to know, what did the designers at Dior say?

Maybe I’m a little bit square in some things, too “old school” at times but to be honest, the first thing I thought was: GOD! a customized Dior bag! Unacceptable! I felt like two years ago when I saw a picture of Lady Gaga wearing a customized Kelly but then I thought: Why not? This kind of bag is for the women who have everything and there’s many creative and trendy girls who wear the “classics” by their own way and looks really cool! We are living in a new era, when past meets present, when “vintage” is new and this is a well thought proof.
