Swoon With Leon Bridges

It’s hard for an artist to embrace a vintage look without coming across as slightly cliché, but Leon Bridges, a 25-year-old crooner from Texas, is making me swoon for real. His late 50s Sam Cooke style and taste for diners and barber shops doesn’t feel forced. It’s smooooooth.
Bridges released the video for his song “Coming Home” in March and it’s just as cool as his Instagram account, which is also all in black and white. What do you think? Are you swooning too, or does it feel inauthentic?

I love the idea of a crooner but I’m sad to say Leon can’t really carry a tune. However, he or someone around him was wise in making the music more heard than his underwhelming voice. He’s not awful. I think he needs a lot more practice.

vintage look – when it’s done too perfect without a break, which means a relation to here and now I’m not thrilled. I prefer a nowadays look with slight vintage reminiscences for example 70-style of lykke li’s video for gucci (https://www.nowness.com/series/nowness-picks/gucci-x-lykke-li-just-like-a-dream), where she is first shown with a record player and next scene in a second- hand record store.
But Bridges has a great voice that thrills no matter what style!

En musique on dit sonner “old school” ! Un peu trop, non ? Puisque tout ça a déjà été fait et très bien en plus. Il faut apporter un truc plus personnel lorsque l’on veut revisiter le passé. Exactement comme dans la mode d’ailleurs. Je préfère la vision de Mark Ronson qui fait ça comme personne (rip Amy Whinehouse. Son dernier album…)
