The Oscars Dress Wish List
10 years ago by
We all know about the trouble Jennifer Lawrence had last year at the Oscars (the Dior fall…fingers crossed she wears pants this year…)
So we thought we would pick out the dresses that we are hoping she and the other nine nominees in the best actress categories, will wear tonight at the Academy Awards… No trips or slips this year!!
Best Actress in a Leading Role:
Amy Adams for American Hustle: A Givenchy yellow and gold halter gown straight from the last days of disco.
Cate Blanchett for Blue Jasmine: An irridescent strapless Chanel dress… with sneakers, just to stay in character.
Sandra Bullock for Gravity: Classic mock neck A-line gown from Dior for Sandra, let’s keep it simple, she already floated in space.
Judi Dench for Philomena:A sophisticated Valentino sheath dress… Mrs. Dench doesn’t need frills?
Meryl Streep for August: Osage County: The incomparable Meryl Streep, a tailored Dior power tuxedo.
Best Actress in a supporting Role
Jennifer Lawrence for American Hustle: To avoid absolutely any mishapes, regardless of how endearing, pants and a silver peplum top from Dior.
Sally Hawkins for Blue Jasmine: A Christopher Kane black dress with embellished neckline for the actress who isn’t that into fashion.
Lupita Nyong’o for 12 Years a Slave: Who better to wear a floor length yellow gown from fellow newcomer of the fashion world Rosie Assoulin than Lupita? You go girl!
Julia Roberts for August: Osage County: A structured neutral two piece from Proenza Schouler, she has that hair and that smile, no need for crazy dresses.
June Squibb for Nebraska: Sequined blazer and skirt from Armani for the soon to be grandmother of Hannah on GIRLS… not in real life, like as an actress (she’s 84 and didn’t get into film until she was 60).
Lovely wishlist!
Love the fact that you put Lupita in the yellow gown, she looks incredible in bright colours. Actually, scratch that, she looks incredible in anything.
XO!
i have just seen american hustle last night: i’m looking forward to amy’s choice! :)

How timely. Perfect for today’s blog. In anticipation of tonight’s Oscars. American Hustle gets my vote. Thanks Garance!

Garance,
You have the option for Cate Blachett all wrong!
She is much more daring than that Chanel. She already wore the exact Givenchy at an Australian film awards night so I don’t think any actress will wear it to the Oscars because of the comparison…nor would she EVER wear sneakers – that is the habit of Sybil Shepherd! But we shall see very soon how close you are for everyone else ;)
Breathtaking dresses!
Julia Roberts in Proenza Schouler and June Squibb in the Armani look would probably be the best dressed in my eyes. Oh what I love these looks!

Lupita a de la chance, vous lui avez choisi la plus belle tenue ;)

I absolutely loved Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett’s dresses! Jennifer Lawrence looked great, but I thought her red dress looked too similar to the one she wore at the Oscars a couple years ago.
( Hey girls it’s Brie who wrote this! )
In fact you caught the feeling with Kate and Lupita, jugding from their choices!!! Wish Lawrence had chosen something close to yours..she would have been stunning in it…
Kisses
