I Have A Theory…

It’s surprising to me each season as contemporary brands opt for presentations during fashion week. Brands typically known for well-priced workwear becoming part of the greater fashion story. But you know, they’re succeeding is the thing!
Theory was maybe my favorite presentation so far this season – the atmosphere and movement felt natural, and not like you were staring at plastic mannequins. The girls (and guys) would move about freely, laugh, interact, etc … all while in a more than photogenic location. Sun rays peeking through the pillars and columns, and long grass whispering in the breeze.
And all that to say the clothes, well, they were great, too! Structured and sophisticated wool suits with new modern tailoring details (think just slightly cropped sleeve lengths and boxier silhouettes), simple button ups with a waist flattering peplum and cool relaxed trousers that are sure to have both 9-5ers and downtown girls jonesin’ for a pair.
So, here’s my theory: they’ve finally nailed that normally indeterminable area where work-meets-fashion by catching just enough of what we love about brands like Céline (which, if you think about the real, timeless pieces, are exquisite trousers, button ups and coats) and putting it into a context everyone can understand and be a part of.
Have I proved it? Or do we just now have a rudimentary understanding of what really works?
I love Theory! Their clean cuts are awesome

I have loved Theory for a long time. They just “get” fashion from the cuts to the styles, it all works!

I think you proved it nicely.
That’s funny that you should mention them because the WSJ mentioned them as a designer to know for this fall. I love the flannels, tweeds and heavy knits they’re doing for this fall. Definitely on my “to buy” list. Good price point too.
I love Theory but if you want Theory with lower prices, Uniqlo is a good choice too. They both belong to the same japanese group Fast Retailing..!
