Yes, LOVE! But the first one is just a mess! Literally, I mean…
Je sais pas trop ce qu’il nous raconté Karl, mais surement pas un truc très rigolo quand on voit la tronche que tirent les mannequins… Ok, ça fait surement super reac ce que je dis, mais on pourrait pas les voir sourire un peu ces demoiselles?… J’ai vu plus “ludique” et “drôle” que ces têtes d’enterrement…
Quelque chose qui tourne autour du japon, des salles d’attentes et des psychologues (les filles qui ont l’air d’être sur des divans de psy)
J’adore !! Ça change des autres campagnes !

Très étrange en effet comme campagne… 1 mère et ses 2 filles!
Petite coquille dans le billet: “drôle, ludique et un peu bizarre” sans “t” à “peu” ou alors je n’ai pas bien compris la phrase! ;-)
Playful to Serious is the theme?
Definitely with a Japanese influence! :)
For me, The model with the dark hair(pulled back) is a madame/ boss. Her choice of clothes are less playful like the other models who have on bright and playful outfits. Her choice of clothes and the way she pairs them with the shoes portray, power or boss b*tch to me. The boss model poses seem to be authoritative/commanding while the two girls are playful,fun,childlike/ submissive. Could it be that Chanel caters to the woman who is in control, runs the world and also to the woman who just doesnt take life seriously and just has fun?
I agree with this comment: though I see it more as a mother daughter relationship.The first shot is so much like how my room would look like (if I had a closet full of chanel of course;) after trying and discarding many outfits figuring out what to wear for the day/night or as a child when I ransacked my mom’s closet.
I agree with Jessica! Completely mother/daughter! The mother is trying to teach her daughters how to be “ladylike” with classes and therapy and the “girls” are totally rebellious! I adore it! After all if Chanel isn’t for Mothers/daughters to share, then what is???/

A mother who was a famous Geisha in her former life telling her story to her two daughters, wishing for them to be rebellious. Or the story might also be a simple message like… “Go shoe shopping and chat with your friends instead of spending your money for a shrink”…. Or a story about power and dominance as it is quite obvious that in most of the pictures the two models with the long hair are sitting or laying down…. I’m very curious! xxx

Je sais pas ce qu’il raconte, du coup ça ressemble à un très bon film asiatique…
Mmmm.. the story. I think these two young girls need some discipline: look at their room! Miss Rottenmeier (do you remember Heidi and Clara?) takes care of them, and teach them how to behave to become a perfect lady.. more or less.

J’aime beaucoup aussi le côté bizarre, surtout sur l’avant-dernière photo… ce n’est franchement pas ce que l’on a l’habitude de voir ! Je crois que c’est justement ça qui me plaît. Ce n’est pas parfaitement cadré et surchargé, tout est simple, minimaliste, mais en même temps creusé dans le détail.
J’aurai tendance à imaginer l’histoire d’une maman stricte (ou d’une nounou) un peu trop pesante et présente avec deux ados blasées. Bof, peut-être que je me trompe (sans doute), l’idée doit être beaucoup plus délicate et… créative. Je ne suis pas dans la tête de Karl (Dieu sait que j’aimerai !)

8) So much to learn, now practice lying on the sofa gracefully with your legs stretched soles on the floor…stretching is good for you.

Ces photos sont belles ! Elles font un peu post nouvelle vague japonaise … ! une histoire qui tourne autour des thèmes de la psycanalyse, d’un déménagement de françaises au Japon, d’une mère et de ses filles, d’une sorte de prof des bonnes manières japonaises … Bref vite vite la réponse !

Really love the simplicity of the shots! The clothes and models really stand out. Do you know where the furniture is from – especially the dressing table?
It looks like perhaps the “Mother” of an okiya and two geishas. The neck rests, tea…
Ah! Reminds me of Memoirs of a Geisha, the “strict” woman is Hastumomo, the two “girls” are Pumpkin and Chiyo. In the last photo, Pumpkin and Hatsumomo are together, Chiyo stands alone. Or maybe I’m just too in love with that book, ha!

The thing I find funny is… it seems to have been shot in a Japanese room with traditional tatami. And, actually people don’t wear shoes on tatami – no high-heels either… (I am sorry!)
What’s the story? I’m interested :) It seems like, it’s a prep school and the madame is teaching the two girls the proper Chanel prep. And she’s having a hard time teaching them (they’re still messy with their things!) and so she has to lie down, she’s got a headache. Hahaha :)
Or maybe, she’s a mom, teaching her 2 girls. So, Chanel becomes transgenerational. Haha!! :)

Well, the first picture is clearly a (rich) teenagers’ room with their parents on holidays. In the second one: look, mum has arrived!!!
If you’re really mean, you could say that he makes fun of other houses (or points to their issues) similar to his “No smoking” illustration: Take, for instance, Dior’s campaign, which I believe is stellar in terms of visuals; yet, the dominance of styling in the imagery puts a corset on the story (if there is any attempt to tell one) and implies that its all very serious.
With Chanel styling (which, by the way, seems impeccable) isn’t the main point but rather a tool to tell a story allowing for more than a breath of humour. Since, I guess most people reading this blog agree that (at least subtle) humour is critical to fashion, this clearly highlights a potential flaw in the Dior campaign (in addition to it being a great Chanel campaign). I assume Lagerfeld must have been very amused about this shoot.
Ohh j’adore, surtout la première, elle me fait penser à une soirée entre filles pendant laquelle on aurait beaucoup parlé fringues :) Totalement superficiel mais tellement bon! Pour les autres photos je suis un peu moins enthousiaste mais ça tient surtout au fait que j’aime ce qui est fun et vivant, et là les demoiselles chanel me font plutôt penser à des statuts de cire!

C’est l’histoire de 3 filles qui sont bien déprimées et se rencontrent dans la salle d’attente d’un psy. L’une d’entre elle (avec le chignon et les noeuds dans les cheveux) est en fait life-coach, et dans un élan de motivation, se dit qu’elle pourrait essayer de soigner ses 2 nouvelles potes en talons. Du coup elle leur fait faire des activités marrantes, comme s’allonger sur un divan, ou dans un lit. Ou sur une table. Ou boire du thé. Sauf que ça ne marche toujours pas, toutes les trois n’arrivent pas à rire, ou même à sourire. Donc elles retournent toutes les 3 chez le psy. et portent des robes à nuage.

un peu ” space “, je trouve cette ambiance ! A trop vouloir faire du décalé, ça ne m’inspire pas grand chose… J’aurai aimé des filles plus souriantes ! Marre des têtes d’enterrement !… j’attends de connaitre un peu mieux ” l’histoire ” !
Une Cendrillon sino-européenne, ou la marâtre essaie d’apprendre à ses deux filles à se comporter en futures princesses parfaites…mais désespère un peu du résultat (cf photo n°4)?

Est-ce que tu en sais plus sur l’histoire des dessous de cette campagne, est-ce que Karl a choisi le mobilier (on le sait grand amateur d’art, de design, d’art déco etc…) ? Où l’a-t-il choisi ? bref peut-être que mes questions resteront a jamais ouvertes…

I’m seeing a strong Japanese theme. The tatami mats, the girls sleeping on blocks and kneeling during a tea ceremony. They seem to be experiencing varying degrees of comfort and discomfort based on their sleeping postures and the materials they’re sleeping on. Geisha’s in training…

Picture 1) – ‘We are the beautiful dolls of this doll’s house. Today is Friday and on Fridays we play a game that we call ‘ dress up well fast and find your chair’ – it is a spin on the Musical Chair game and as its name indicate you have to dress up well and fast and find a place to seat – be it a chair, a bed or a table. The last one to sit down is the loser! Hair Down Brunette and I love this game we are soooo good at it!
Picture 2 : Look at us ‘Hair Down girls’ we are as fast as lightening – we dressed up, sat down and even had the time to strike a pose. Our Dark Hair Tied Up flatmate is not as fast as us – and she loses the first round…Too bad!
Picture 3 : And here we show that we are even faster. I mean come on – we even get the time to lie down and think of England! And another loss for Dark Hair Tied Up! Is it me or she is getting upset?
Picture 4 : My lovely friend Hair Down Brunette has gone to the ladies’ room – so I let Dark Hair Tied Up win. She has lost twice already so I feel generous – and beside a win without my lovely friend Hair Down Brunette is not a win!
Picture 5: And Hair Down Brunette is back and we win again! We’re just too good right?
Picture 6: This time we even have time to pick a similar shirt and lie in bed – Dark Hair Tied Up is getting very very upset.
Picture7: You have to admit, she is truly a slow dresser! I mean come in– we even having the time to serve tea….
Picture 8: This is getting serious – Dark Hair Tied Up is so upset, she doesn’t even want to look at us anymore – I think she feels singled out and isolated…
Picture 9: It’s just a game and I want everyone to feel happy, I’m good like that (…) so I let her win the last round. And it’s with this standing ovation that I salute you all. See you next Friday!’
