Unfussy Evening

For me, evening dressing is kind of a funny concept. Maybe it’s a symptom of 2018 fashion, maybe it’s living in New York, or maybe I’m just not that fancy of a person (probably some combination of the three), but it’s pretty rare that I find myself having to get dressed up for events. Weddings, of course, are an exception. But to me, weddings feel more obligatory (sorry, sorry, we can talk about this another time). Whatever happened to just getting dressed up for fun? In the spirit of the holiday season, and all of the parties and New Year’s Eve celebrations that are still upon us, I’m toying with the idea.
I guess that’s what I was thinking about when I came up with the idea for this story. How do we take party dressing and make it feel good for a not-so-fancy girl living in 2018? In my ideal “evening world,” the clothes are cool, comfortable and absolutely unfussy.
Here are a couple of ideas. A simple sheath or slip dress in a bold color, easy to throw on, and looks elegant but cool. A matching set (pants or skirt, take your pick!) eliminates the need for over-thinking. A beautiful blouse doubles as an evening top or something you can wear during the day. Bold and unexpected accessories help things along. I’m an earring and shoe gal myself, but how you mix it is up to you.
I needed a real kick in the butt to stop wearing jeans to parties. So, maybe this story is selfishly motivated, but I hope you guys like it too! Happy Holidays!

En grèce quand tu vas dans un magasin et que tu veux t’acheter un truc mettable mais chouette, la vendeuse te dit tout de suite que pour le soir , c’est idéal. Et là en général je lui dit, soir , matin …c’est pareil , je suis la même. Et il suffit de voir les dégats en soirée pour se convaincre qu’on est jamais mieux que le cool de la journée avec une petite touche d’un petit plus.

When I see the white shoes in the 1st picture, I wonder if I have missed the return of the long pointy shoe.
This is so circa 98 that I wonder if I can wear again my 1999 Prada pumps that I kept because they were the first designer shoes I could afford.
