Summer in the City

New York City changes in the summertime. Not just in the obvious ways. It’s hot, it’s humid, it kind of smells bad, yes. But also, it’s empty. Or at least that’s how it feels to me. During New York City summers everyone tries to escape… to the beach, to the lake, to anywhere other than those hot, city streets.
During my first summer in New York, my colleagues at the time would ask me where I was escaping to for the weekend. The truth was that, as an overworked 22-year-old assistant with no friends and no money, I wasn’t going anywhere. Of course, rather than offer that admission, I played it cool… “Oh, I’m just staying here,” I’d tell them as if it was my choice, “I love the city in the summer.”
My words may not have been true when first spoken, but as I spent that first steaming summer in New York, I grew to believe them.
When the weekenders hit the road, the energy in the city shifts. It always felt to me like the people who were left behind were going to make the most of it, heat be damned! We’re sunning ourselves on any rooftop we can find, the kids are running through fire hydrants, the guy on the corner is blasting music louder than usual. All of the summer New Yorkers are drinking, dancing, smiling. Yes, it’s humid and yes, it kind of smells bad, but f*ck it, let’s celebrate.
It’s that New York City summer magic, you can’t find it anywhere else.

What a wonderful declaration of love to the City! I am going to move there in a few weeks and I can’t wait to spend the whole summer on the little island of Manhattan. Thank god for our future rooftop though :-)

As a native New Yorker, I can say that there is nothing like summer in the city. Although it smells and it’s humid as f**k, there’s nothing like an empty city, rooftop hangs, and those summer sunsets. Also, love how you styled these outfits!

Love the Story!And it is still so me, staying in the city(Lisboa) in the summer specially in June when the capital is pumping with energy ( Just ask Madonna Louise Ciccone!)! We have The Santos Populares( Popular Saints and to give you guys an ideia , imagine having your 4th ofJuly, Mardi Gras, and Saint Paddy’s in one month???), the summer festivals and music gatherings, some with Great lineups ( CoolJazz Fest and OutJazz for instance),the beach is just right there…summing up, you tend to burn a lot a $$$ to even consider getting out of here , you Know?
However, i think that everyone who has been in NYC in the summer can picture in their head:sunning on rooftops , the kids running through fire hydrants, beach towels in the grass near water fountains…yeah , as a city guy ,i just love it !!!

Every city has its own culture and no matter what the culture I always feel good , and It seems to me that you are enjoying too. I am in love with your dressing, the color of your dress is so relaxing to eyes. In winter I would love to see you in leather jackets and then I will be buying those jackets too :)
