Transitional Earth Tones

Despite being well past my college years, I’ve never been able to shake that back-to-school feeling of excitement that accompanies the approach of fall. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll mourn the end of lazy, summer days as much as everyone else, but fall always feels like a fresh start. Of course, in my mind, a fresh start also indicates that it’s time for a fresh wardrobe. (Ok fine, so maybe the eagerness for a change of seasons has more to do with shopping than I’d like to admit…)
September, when the leaves are starting to change but the temperature is still unpredictable, is fall-like in spirit but not always in practice. For sun-blazed afternoons and cool, breezy evenings, transitional pieces in earthy, autumnal colors are key. I’ve got some ideas about how to wear them, here.
When it’s not quite cool enough to bust out jeans and a sweater, this sleek dress will make you look like a walking pumpkin spice latte (in the best possible way, of course).
Not ready to give up your denim shorts yet? Fine, me neither. But mix them with a cool button down so you don’t look like you just got back from the beach
Did you know that you wanted a yellow, leather skirt before you saw this picture? You’re welcome (or I’m sorry, depending on your shopping budget). A lightweight, leather skirt is more functional than you think. Start wearing it now, and keep it in rotation all winter.
What can I say about a chic blazer besides stating that you should own one? This gorgeous, sand-colored version will work all year round.
Of course, now that it’s pants season again, you’ll want to get a cool, new pair into the rotation. I like to dress them down with a casual t-shirt and sneakers.

The model is beautiful, as well as the clothes. But, there’s just something slightly laughable when a white-girl wears a headscarf, all cool and everything. It just doesn’t work.
