Reevaluating the Ruffles

If you were to ask me how I feel about ruffles, my response would most likely be something like, “You mean the chips? I love them! The perfect amount of salt.” Leaning a bit more to the boyish side in my style, I’ve never been one to wear ruffles, or even consider them, if I’m being totally honest.
But my motto is never say never, to almost everything, and Anahita in her ruffles is throwing a wrench in everything I thought I knew about myself.
As I’ve gotten older, I find myself suddenly reevaluating things that used to be considered “definitely nots.” Like the color pink or sweet and salty dishes, which is actually still a struggle. Also, I’ve recently chopped my hair off to what I’m calling “Anna Wintour meets 4 year old” and I find myself gravitating toward looks on the slightly more delicate and feminine side to nicely balance out my sudden lack of hair.
So, ruffles! Suddenly on the maybe yes! list for me. Anahita’s perfect balance of flowing feminitiny with the functionality of (amazingly graphic?!) Vans really speaks to me. Who would have thought that someday I’d be dreaming about floating through NYC this summer in a swirl of ruffles? Not me. But that’s why never say never is such a trusty motto.

Anahita is the deputy fashion editor at New York Post who does feminine style well. Really well. The ruffles, color, and often times, glitter, feels perfectly in line with her outgoing personality, and perfectly offset by that beautiful, dark mane.

As a curvy lady, ruffles make me feel rather stuffy and frumpy, but beyonces dress in “hold up” really blew me away.
I think it’s the super soft material that allows the ruffles to fall and move in a gentle and flattering way…
The styling of this dress with those white trainers is spot on too. It makes it accessible, like an ‘everyday fairytale’ look.
