Rainy Days
8 years ago by
Sometimes you meet the team behind a brand and things just click—like a first date gone really well. You know, the other person is just so cool and really just gets you. At least, that’s what it was like that the first time we met the team from Stutterheim. They came to our office for a simple introduction and two hours later we were swept up in each other’s worlds—theirs of Swedish melancholy, and ours of creativity, femininity and playfulness.
I love the simplicity of the design of their raincoats, as well as their fabrics. I love their unisex cuts. So when they offered for me to design a coat I was like yes! yes!!! I knew right away I wanted it to be happy and playful. What better than a clear fabric to play with the underneath layers… And what better than our soft pink to brighten a rainy day? (and especially a day like today, if you know what I mean…!)
This coat is something that’s been in the works for a long time. And it was so refreshing to collaborate with a brand who understood my attention to details: getting the cut of the coat just right, the translucent fabric, how we could use the abstract shapes that ran throughout Love x Style x Life to give the coat the perfect pattern and a sophisticated playfulness.
It’s been pretty wonderful to wear the prototype and to have been stopped on the streets (many times!) and asked, “where’s your raincoat from?” and to be able to answer:
WELL, I DESIGNED IT!!!
Thank you to Stutterheim for the opportunity. I was extra happy to receive this note from their team this morning:
I find comfort in our wording about the coat being made in celebration of the modern woman, in collaboration with Garance, a strong and classy woman. Because we apparently really need to celebrate strong, modern and classy women right now.
It’s so very beautiful! I’m sorry but you lost me at the price tag.
Absolutely
Great look!

Good job! very nice and so different from the others raincoats we see around.

Love the knitted sweater mixed with the coat.
My kid had a transparent raincoat years ago. I thought it was a great idea. Glad they’re making them for adults. But it does seem pricey.
Hey a great debut to the world of design. Literally if i think myself as a designer/craft person of different things i totally understand the prize of the garment. But the system of fashion is build in a very complicated way. Not being aware of the processes followed to make a quality garment, we are fixed to believe that this is an expensive coat. But the problem is that this belief is so strong that the salaries of some of us are also adjusted to it, and yes consequently although we would love to contribute to more ethical fashion processes we can not really afford it.
I think your blog is tackling issues like this, and i sense or at least wish that the in the future you will innovate even more on this subject. Garance has already talked about buying less, she has a fierce sense of freedom and independence that she tries to preserve around the subject. Also that great post you once had about not buying clothes for a year was also an extremely inspiring one. In my eyes your up to something big, we and you don’t know maybe what it is exactly but please stick to it!!!
? ? ? Precioso!!!
Well, well…it’s lovely, a bit Setlla McCartney X Adidas and I adore it…but 425€?! I have my raincoat from a Norwegian brand Stormberg, it was A LOT cheaper and it keeps the rain away as a miracle ????????
a really nice design. like the see through aspect

Nice coat but come on for the majority of your followers a bit too expensive!
Hi Ciara,
Thank you for your feedback! It was important to us to use the highest quality materials in the construction of this coat, which does influence the price. While we understand that this coat isn’t accessible to everyone, we felt strongly about staying true to our dedication to making a product we were proud of. I hope this helps clarify – thank you for reading! x Natalie
Looks so nice with that pink running through it. However, I would never pay that for it.
I would LOVE to purchase this coat but it’s all sold out! Any idea if/when it will come back in stock?
