Warm Up!

8 years ago by

I looooooove me a turtleneck!

Love them. Here in Paris, temperatures are slowly dropping (I’m kinda mad, but I admit the return of cool weather gives the civilized woman that I am an excuse to order tea and pistachio cake at Merci Café, so I guess I won’t complain, well, actually I will — we’re in Paris after all, but anyway…) it’s time for jackets, scarves, and turtlenecks.

Apparently in New York, the Indian summer suddenly got taken over by a hurricane so all my friends are under the covers with their boyfriends or on Tinder saying “Want to come over to my house?” “No, how about you come over here?” so I have a feeling when I get back it will be time to get the Canada Goose out and I tremble at the thought, but oh well. Everyone come to my house ok?

And here in Paris at Studio Dorépublique (we’re renting an apartment at République and it’s like being at summer camp, woohoo!)(well, actually, with all the work we have to do, let’s say it’s more like studying for exams at boarding school and inhaling coffee all together) we all love turtlenecks because they solve the mid-season problem in three seconds: they’re great under or over a shirt, they look cool under a coat (like on Caroline de Maigret, for example, the queen of cool) and they’re great by themselves too, especially when you’re wearing a piece so striking (like a red skirt made out of leather) that you don’t want to wear anything that might draw attention away from it.

Hehehe except that won’t work on me, since my eyes always wander where they aren’t supposed to ;)

  • I’ve always loved turtlenecks but nowadays, in this selfie era… they are a must! They hidden double (or triple) chins like magic! Scarves also do the job perfectly… No worries about that extra cake portion. Oh, Autumn fashion is my fave :)

  • I’m slowly getting into turtlenecks again. I use to hate them! But now I want them in my closet!

  • We just stocked up on some cashmere turtlenecks from the Lemaire capsule at Uniqlo, so thanks for these inspiration shots!
While you are in Paris, come visit our Accessory Showroom at Rue des Arquebusiers n. 11 (right around the corner from Merci)! Here until Oct 8 with lots of great brands here and on this street

  • bouf…

    Asia Typek!

  • I also love turtlenecks, they create a great line, and can be very elegant. I really liked pic1 and 3 in this post.

  • Anyone knows where is the cool black coat that lady on the second photo wearing, from?

  • I love turtlenecks!

  • so great to be able to choose because the weather is nice….when it gets really cold..we become “survival look”
    that is not so fun,,,,

République…super coin quand on débarque à Paris!

ahhh…the turtleneck! Who can forget Nora Ephron’s love of the turtleneck. See ; “There’s Something About my Neck”
I like a turtleneck that has some casual “stand-up-ness” to it. As we age it is best, I find , to have some crisper lines of clothing around the neck and framing the face. Especially true for being photographed.
But the turtleneck is soooo cozy…I love it on crisp windy days.

Love how they look on others!

Don’t love at all how they feel on me! I’m always too hot with a turtleneck indoors and feel like I’m suffocating in them. A scarf for me every time, but I won’t say “no” to watching others wear their sleek and elegant turtlenecks!

  • I am actually surprised, Garance, that you wear turtlenecks. I love turtlenecks, but as a fellow well-endowed woman, I find that they accentuate my full bustedness in an unflattering way. You don’t?

  • That first jacket is great! I actually don’t own a turtle neck, but I really think I need one.

  • Me too!
I love turtle necks too because I hate coldness and it keeps me warm in winter! It is not very sexy but with a short skirt, and feminine outfit, it’s quite nice!

    Petite and So What

  • I love tiny mock turtlenecks only! I feel too confined in a regular one…but I do love how wonderful they look with cozy oversized scarves!! xo

So yes, go go go pour les cols roulés!!!

Though I have mixed feelings when it comes to wearing turtlenecks, I must say, your selection of outfits totally inspired me to wear them more often!

  • Haha, just order a black one before opening the article… It’s so basic and yet it looks so polished, it just makes an outfit look more put together. And the best thing is that you don’t have to wear a scarf anymore :)
