Le Boot Café

The other day between shows we bumped into Laura grabbing a coffee at Le Boot Cafe in the 3e.
Its not always easy to find a place to get a to-go coffee in Paris that doesn’t rhyme with carducks, so we were extra happy to find out that the Boot Cafe slogan is “This coffee is made for walking!”
We promise, we’ll be back!

Great picture .i also love this place and I like that they kept the history of the place-cordonnerie. Laura style is absolutely more French than the other pictures of her..there is something in Paris which inspire differently..isn’t it??

Laura looks marvelous, The Boot is charming but please — no giant coffees-to-go! My Parisian friends always ask me why Americans must walk around with such large drinks. I literally refuse to let my friends go to Carducks when they’re in Paris, it’s a slap in the face to the cafe society, the ritual of sitting down with friends and normal size cup of coffee and just doing one thing at a time. What’s next? Giant TV screens at Le Flore?! Zut alors!
Oh thank you Jane! I am French but have lived in the States for over 15 years and I still don’t get it, the habit of walking around with massive drinks, it is not elegant, not practical, I am sure it’s not even good. Coffee should be a social affair. I am very sorry to see that European cultures start to find this weird habit trendy.

The Boot is great but if you happen to be in the Marais try La Caféothèque at 50-52 rue de l’Hôtel de Ville. Four rooms with nice sitting/work areas, great coffee roasted on the spot.

Ce café est minuscule, convivial et celui qui tient boutique est toujours de bonne humeur en train de chanter. C’est juste la meilleure découverte parisienne ces derniers temps, en espérant que l’adresse ne devienne pas trop connue, sinon il sera impossible de s’assoir (c’est déjà presque le cas).
C’est autre chose qui me chagrine : voir une énième petite boutique d’artisans d’autrefois devenir un lieu de consommation. Je n’ai absolument rien contre les bons resto et café à Paris, bien au contraire, j’adore. Mais c’est un peu triste de se dire que le vieux Paris, celui avec ses artisans et leurs savoir-faire, se vident complètement. Le centre de Paris est devenu une jolie vitrine à l’image du Boot Café, mais a perdu son charme, et son côté vivant qui faisait se rencontrer les habitants. Le faubourg St Antoine, haut lieu de l’artisanat à Paris n’est qu’une allée de cafés et bistrots à présent. Et la mairie de Paris pour redonner une place aux artisans, a emménagé le viaduc des Arts. D’ailleurs, je conseille d’aller y jeter un œil, il y a quantité d’artisans talentueux qui cultivent cet art de vivre “très français”.

Moi aussi je prefere m’asseoir pour boire un cafe. Je ne comprends pas du tout les Americains (et les non-Americains) qui trimbalent leur “coffee-to-go” partout! Marcher et boire, ca ne “marche” pas… Puh-leeez…
Another great place for coffee to go is Frenchie To Go (yes the name has it all) on Rue du Nil in the 2e. My year in Paris would have been incomplete without this little gem right behind my apartment.

It’s probably run by an Aussie. Looks very much like a hipster Aussie cafe! Hahaa. The Aussie cafe scene is amazing. Make great coffee. Much better than French coffee I hear.
