Why is it the simple things that seem to be so hard? Bed head locks, a smudged smokey eye… and denin on denim. I see it everywhere (most recently at J.Crew this season) and it’s something that works all the time (no snow or sleet can stop it) but it’s not always easy to get it right.
There have been maybe a few times that my denim mix has looked a little more farmer than fashion editor and it all comes down to perfecting the mix.
So, what’s a girl to do?
– If you’re feeling like you are on denim overload, add a non-denim layer, like a leather vest or jacket.
– To kick the farmer feeling, go for a pair of heels (the ones here are Gianvito Rossi).
– Layer it on. Here we have overalls, a denim shirt and a denim vest. The more denim, the merrier.
– Try a total look and do all the same color denim (if you’re feeling a little less bold, mix dark and light).
It’s an art really. Have you mastered it?

Le denim + denim, je portais ça ado! J’étais complètement fan du jean et surtout, des mêmes tons de jean. Alors j’avais acheté un jean et j’avais cherché une veste, assortie à mon pantalon jean’s!
Par contre, aujourd’hui, je ne porterai pas, je trouve que ça fait trop ton sur ton, même si c’est joli! Je préférerais casser avec une autre matière et d’autres couleurs!

Les photos sont – comme d’hab’ – très réussies.
Je pourrais presque croire que son look est bien. Mais en fait, tu es manifestement à Paris et pas loin de chez moi, et je suis pas sûre qu’en croisant cette fille dans la rue, je penserais que les 12 (plus?) cm de talons qu’elle a lui permettent vraiment de casser l’amas de jean et de faire un vrai look sympa, même si ces chaussures, c’est une tuerie !!!
Elles me font penser au Typhoon de Jimmy Choo qui me font de l’oeil …

Ces chaussures sont complètement dingues! Le look est superbe, moi je m’arrête à deux pièces de jean, souvent pantalon et chemise associés à une parka ou même un blazer blanc.
Moi c’est plutôt les chaussures qui me font des appels de phares, j’ADORE! Et le denim on denim, je n’ai jamais essayé, mais je crois que je préfère sur les autres…

Wow, the heels really make the difference! I have one combination denim on denim that works for me, it’s nothing special, just one of my favorite jeans from AG and a denim shirt from Zara, similar washings, but the jeans slightly darker, which is a good thing ;-) But next time I wanna try mix it with my denim jacket, wow, then I definitely need some heels to balance things out! I love the denim on denim look, and think one way to avoid the sensation of overload (beyond the desirable sensation of pleasing abundance) is to select different weights of denim (or denim and chambray, etc)

I completely agree that posh shoes and/or accessories are a great way to balance it out.
This looks so great on her. I love the shoes — in a theoretical way since I wouldn’t be able to walk in them. But they are also theoretical in that if she’s in NYC, there’s no way she could wear them outside right now in the cold and snow.

Although slightly more rock chick than fashion editor, I think I see what you mean with the adding of a non-denim layer. I love the denim on denim (on denim) look and comfort, but it really needs to be personalised. For me, it worked with an army jacket, I think:

Je ne suis pas vraiment une adepte du total look jean, mais là je dois avouer que son look est super cool, les talons sont canons et j’aime beaucoup avec la salopette. C’est vrai que c’est quelque chose de compliquer à maîtriser et il faut vraiment faire attention.
olala NON NON et Non , cette fille est sublime, mais je ne suis pas certaine de son look, la salopette et la veste en jean …et les chaussures…

I think it’s a little too much. The girls so pretty and petite. Hence she looks good in there. That look on a bigger women and someone not so gorgeous would be too much !

Ces talons sont bien trop hauts pour moi, mais là j’avoue qu’ils sont vraiment superbes… Je ne suis pas sure que le look me plaise autant une fois qu’elle se sera levée de la banquette !
J’aimerai bien essayer la salopette denim pour ce printemps, sans avoir l’air d’une femme enceinte (les bébés c’est déjà fait !). Reste donc à trouver le bon modèle…
