Mina Mazzini, do you know her ?
She is an Italian singer, a real diva, one of those who must have inspired Lana Del Rey (thank you Lana for bringing divas back by the way. Dalida, I miss you!). Not only does she have a wonderful voice, but she was really fashion forward…

Of course Garance!, In Italy Mina represent the epitome of talent, a symbol of Italian artistic richness and despite the fact that she’s not showing in public since the 80’s I believe (no one has seen her face in the media since) she’s still ‘la leonessa di Cremona’ as she’s always been called and her fame hasn’t decreased of an inch.
Glad you have discovered Mina, she encapsulates sexiness, sensuality, an amazing voice, a talented performer, beauty and quirky looks, a total inspirational woman!

Garance – Mina is amazing! Look up the lyrics to her song “Ma chi e’ quello li?'” – it’s very avant garde for its time and hilarious at the same time. Diva crush indeed!

We call her just Mina and please don’t compare a great artist like her to someone insignificant like Lana Del Rey, who hasn’t any talent. Mina has one of the most beautiful voice you can ever hear on this planet, she used to be so glamourous, hilarious and avant-garde on italian television (my god, her dresses! Her hair, those moves!) She is a real star. And just like the divas, she retired when she begins to feel uncomfortable with her public image. Who knowns, maybe she was just sick of being a celebrity. What we knows now is that she lives in Switzerland and that she is a very happy gradma, that’s all we need.
Thanks to you Garance, I hope a lor of people would discover this great little piece of Italy. Enjoy!

I LOVE MINA! Fell in love with her this summer when i was in Italy!!!
What a great Lady I I have never heard of her but now I am hooked…and I completely understand when you say she makes you miss Dalida. I had the same feeling listening and watching those videos.

Mina has one of the best voices ever AND such a great sense of humor (you have to check this interview where she declares she doesn’t have time to read and, when she does, she reads only comic books: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh_OCZZUPR4. The way she makes fun of the -very pretentious- guy is just hilarious)! With her very own way of thinking and her incredible “realness”, to me she has always represented the type of woman I’d like to be: strong, genuine, opinionated and seductive. Garance&Co- you should listen to this song: “Mi sei scoppiato dentro al cuore” and pay attention to the way she says: “scoppiato”… the way she streches the “A” is sooo “commovente”!

OMG MINA!!!! I adored her as a child growing up in Milano ( now I’m dating myself) and still do! She’s on my iPhone playlist! One of my favorite songs was “Conversazione”!!!! I sang it all the time! And when she sings a duet with Celentano called “Parole”!!!! They are hilarious! I’ll try to find it. Btw Mina could also sing in other languages very well!

Hi Garance, actually, what everyone should know is that Mina had a love affair with a married man, an actor, during the 60s. At that time divorce in Italy was illegal and she was asked by the Television company to stop the relationship. She did not, she made public and she got pregnant and she did not hide this. For this reason she was banned from the Italian TV for something like four years. But she kept being so successful that the Italian television had eventually to withdraw the ban. She got that kid, of course…as she did not care. Yeah
