A subdued poise that makes you slow down a bit, that’s Rosetta. Like her collections, her own wardrobe is luxe but with a sense of ease, tailored and unhurried, yet somehow still peaceful. If that isn’t aspirational, I’m not sure what is! What I’ve admired about Rosetta and her collection since its arrival in 2014, is the straightforwardness – both in silhouette and idea, something that can really be felt when you meet Rosetta.

While the LA aesthetic can’t be pinned to one thing any longer, Rosetta epitomizes what the lifestyle is all about: versatile dressing that can go from day-to-night in a flash, or from the beach to the city with the change of a pair of shoes. Of course, Rosetta does it with serious grace…

Describe your style in three words.
Versatile, refined, minimal

Where do you like to shop in LA? New York?
Saks NY/LA and Just One Eye

Are there things you won’t wear?
I like to keep an open mind when it comes to dressing.

You dress in a sophisticated palette, do you feel like color selection is innate for you?
I have been designing for a long time- it’s who I am. Not just clothes and footwear but also interiors and spaces. Because of that, I have developed a good sense of color and know how to use it to evoke whatever I’m trying to communicate. I feel a lot of my intuition about color comes from my relationship to art as well. Color in my own dressing and my collections changes seasonally but the theory of how it’s incorporated is consistent.

In what ways are the designs for your collection, Rosetta Getty, uniquely Californian?
I was raised in LA and have considered it home for most of my life- it’s a fundamental part of the collection because the brand is based around my personal philosophies on dressing. People here on the West Coast really value easy, adaptable pieces that can be carried over from day to night- it’s a reflection of the lifestyle. I also use a lot of cross seasonal fabrics that have global appeal for travel but also work for the weather here in LA – for example a thin Japanese wool tartan that is light enough for milder temperatures with the appeal of a traditional plaid. Going back to the palette, a lot of the colors I work with feel “Californian” like the terra cotta pieces from Spring 2016 and light coral throughout Prefall 2016.

What are your signature ways to style pieces from your collection?
Wraps and ties are a part of every collection. It’s important to me that the wearer can experiment and find a way to style the clothes in a way that feels authentic to them. Layering is also an essential part of the brand and a lot of the pieces can be worn on their own or easily worked into an outfit. My look books are a good example of that. I work with Kate Young and we always try to communicate how versatile a garment can be.

And how has your career, and style, changed since becoming a mom?
I took time to raise my family before launching Rosetta Getty and that’s been helpful for me to build the brand and create balance for my children. When I’m with my kids I’m a mom and that’s where my attention is 100% and vice versa with the brand. The importance of staying present has been magnified through the experience of being mother with her own business. My style really has changed as a result of my lifestyle- I’m too busy to overthink it so I need a wardrobe of luxury basics and elegant pieces that transition with me for travel, at home, or at work. Clean lines, quality fabrics – easy.

When you travel for work, what do you always pack in your suitcase?
I often travel to New York for work and try to pack light because of the busy schedule:
– APL sneakers
– Charlotte Tilbury magic cream
– Moisturizing lip balm
– Celine sunglasses
– Rosetta Getty Tailored Robe coat carries over from the plane to meetings

What is your most prized possession in your wardrobe?
My favorite pieces are always changing, but at the moment it’s a black Comme des Garçons dress from one of Rei’s first collections.

Do you have a fashion muse?
Louise Bourgeois – she had a strong sense of her own style and that’s very powerful. Also Betty Parsons, Stella Tenant, Chantal Akerman
