J’en rêvais. Et j’en ai loupé un à 150€ dans un vide-grenier. Pas acheté une année, j’ai retrouvé la dame l’année d’après, même vide-grenier mais 1h avant il était parti. ARGHHHH. Celui de sa vieille mère morte qu’elle vendait. Authentique.
Donc, comment après l’avoir loupé pourrais-je décemment en acheter un à… 5000€ le neuf ? (est-ce le prix ?)(est-ce qu’une question de prix ?)(faut croire)

I love this bag. I have the smaller version that can barely hold a wallet, keys, iPhone and a lippie, still, I love it and do indeed feel different when I carry it rather than my other bags. It’s a forever bag.

You are right- it is far more than just a handbag. It is loaded with meaning, assumptions and as we will soon see… many opinions. Just like every other classic (and expensive) beauty.

I am torn. I love the look of it and actually thought about buying on a couple of occasions- I have gone so far as to have it in my hands to purchase and then changed my mind (sorry Chanel!). Maybe it holds too much meaning for me and I don’t want to carry a bag that has so much baggage.

Ce n’est définitivement pas mon style. Même si je décidais de le porter avec un t-shirt et jean, je continuerai à penser que ce n’est pas pour moi. Le design ne m’a jamais plu deplus comme tu le dis,c’est bien plus qu’un sac, il y a toute une histoire derrière, tout un état d’esprit qui, je crois, ne colle pas à ce que je suis.

Objectivement je le trouve chouette. Il a un ce je ne sais quoi très art-déco.
J’aime bien le matelassé mais la chainette dorée et cuir là ça coince… Ce qui me gêne aussi c’est justement le “status symbol”. Il est beau mais je bloque. Il me fait le même effet que les BM, Mercedes et consort…

Je n’aime pas du tout leur nouveau cuir. Par contre les anciens sont si désirables, certains doublés en cuir bordeaux. j’en ai vu aux Puces ce week end, une forme introuvable datant des anneaux 90, en agneau si doux. Ou en sac à dos comme celui de Miraslava, pas facile à trouver.

Non décidément, je ne l’aime plus… Je dirais presque je ne le supporte plus… Totalement d’accord avec Virginie, il a été trop vu, trop exhibé comme un moyen facile de dire “Je suis pointue en mode et j’ai les moyens du luxe”. Toute cette surexposition a tué pour moi son côté classique justement, et il est passé d’icône Chanel à it-bag lassant…

Il reste sobre et a cette classe intemporelle.. Mais j’ai tellement vu de contre façons et autres que certains m’en ont fait perdre le gout.. Vraiment dommage!

Moi qui n’aime pas trop ce qui tape-à-l’oeil, je fais exception de celui-ci. Je l’adore, il est parfait!

S’il n’avait pas son logo, s’il ne valait pas aussi cher, …fantasmeriez-vous autant sur ce sac ? certainement pas, d’autant plus que ce sac a un côté “mémé” (même s’il est porté avec un jean comme déjà il y a 30 ans) alors que l’on trouve des sacs magnifiques beaucoup moins chers et qui flattent beaucoup mieux notre style !
peut-être parce que je n’ai pas les moyens de m’en offrir un…c’est aussi ce que certaines vont certainement penser, mais vraiment non, ce genre de sac ne m’attire pas du tout !
Il y a chez les grands designers et aussi chez les petits designers des sacs qui sont tellement beaux…attendrez vous 40 années pour les apprécier ? ce serait dommage…

For years I never considered the classic Chanel for myself, even though I share the same initials Coco Chanel, so it’d be almost a personalized bg for me, haha, with the interlocking c’s. Something about it being instantly recognizable and classic makes me a bit hesitant to wear it, so instead I had the 2.55 reissue, with the subtler quilting and mademoiselle lock…after borrowing my sister’s classic bag for a day recently, I’ve warmed to the classic. And as a compromise bought a quilted Boy bag, a punker younger version but still fairly classic. I think next step is the classic pictures here…it is a classic for a reason…

From a design standpoint, wouldn’t you say the bag is genius? I think the quilting and the leather through the chain was done first by Chanel, right? I love the closure hardware going through the logo (not to mention loving the logo itself), and the nuance of the slight curve of the flap seals it’s elegance for all time. Perfection.

Ma grand-mère m’avait donne le sien, qui doit dater des années 70, et dont le design n’a pas change en 40 ans. J’aime le fait que ce soit un sac qui m’a été transmis plutôt qu’acheté, j’adore son aspect patiné et vintage : il a l’air moins précieux, plus rock’n’roll, et je ne le porte pratiquement qu’avec un jean et un perfecto pour dédramatiser son aura iconique. Je n’aurais surement pas porte aussi souvent, et avec autant de bonheur, un Chanel Classique flambant neuf a 3000 euros (ou plus !).

C’est simple j’ai horreur des logos car au lieu de se dire “cette fille a du style”, cela devient “elle porte un sac chanel”, “c’est une fille qui a les moyens”. Pareil pour les vuittons monogrammés, pareil pour les Dior avec la grosse boucle D….Je préfère de loin un Céline sublime surtout par sa forme épurée, et je décollerais les lettres tiens..
Peut-être que c’est un symbole de rareté car de chèreté mais tu vas dans une soirée où tout le monde a assez d’argent, et bien…tout le monde a le même sac. Je ne compte plus le nombre de soirées où 99% des filles avaient le 2.55, en noir. Vraiment horripilant.

I don’t know. I have the large one in black. It was a gift to myself after receiving a bonus for gutting out a tough work year a few years ago. And you know what, even the largest version still cannot fit my stuff when I go to work, so I end up carrying another tote bag or using it only on weekends when I don’t need to carry so much stuff. Also, it seems as if everyone in New York has one, so I don’t find that wearing it generates special conversations. It is a classic for sure, but it’s almost becoming as generic as Louis Vuitton. And sometimes, I am not sure I like what it says about me when I wear it — that I spent so much of my hard earned $$ on one item. But I will say that it does elevate my outfit — any outfit — whenever I wear it. And the leather is so so soft . . .

On m’a offert le 2.55, j’adore ce sac bien que je ne le porte que très rarement. J’aime beaucoup la poche secrète à l’intérieur, le côté très pratique et bien pensé, sac innovant à l’époque de son lancement.

I don’t like it. I don’t like bragging with designer logos on my clothes at all. Even if it’s that bag. My mom’s got the version with the normal closure and it’s much better, but still not my kind of thing. I have to agree with Suzy that it’s too powerful for me and my style also.
Additionally, the “Look, I own a Chanel bag!” attitude most people carrying it have has killed it for me.

I was in Paris 3 years ago & bought this bag….cheaper there than in the U.S. and it’s such a classic, simple, sophisticated bag. I have 2 other Chanels & I love them. I don’t carry them every day, but when I want something simple, but elegant. I don’t have daughters but will pass this on to someone special some day.

Sure it’s on my wishlist but I’d need the Jumbo size (for all the things I need to carry with me in Paris) and I cannot fathom paying almost 4000 € for a bag that will eventually wear and tear.
However I’m perfectly capable of paying more for a mink coat and jewelry..

On dit que tous les goûts sont dans la nature… mais ce sac fait parti de la nature. Il est simple, élégant, classique, beau, féminin, versatile, attirant, mystérieux, sophistiqué, éternel et j’en passe. Un jour, j’en aurai un. Ils sont assez dispendieux les sacs Chanel.

As I have gotten older I truly appreciate the classic design. The timing of your post is perfect. I went into the Hong Kong Chanel store this week while on my travels, intent on making that big purchase. But after having it in my hands, I could not justify or make the expense. I will continue to dream and look for a 2nd hand (Vintage is just as cool right?). You cannot go wrong with a Chanel and for that I will wait.

Chanel is so classic!

La photo est superbe ! Je l’aime beaucoup ce sac. J’aime les histoires de transmission ou les histoires-étapes de la vie qu’il permet de raconter. Je l’achèterai peut-être mais seulement un jour de grand bonheur.

Classique absolu! J’adore faire clasher l’hyper luxe avec le moisi/pourri :))

Médecins sans frontières pour la Syrie en ce moment, Actions contre la faim, Handicap international, ou Graines d’Avenir pour aider le peuple tibétain et pourquoi pas parrainer une jeune fille ou soulager une personne âgée.

I am in two minds about this bag. I think I desire it because of the wonderful house it stands for more than for a love of the bag. I admire it on other women and keep thinking I should have a Chanel to add to my collection, but every time I pick it up in store, I just cannot love it enough to pay the price.
My Chanel holy grail is the classic black jacket.

A mon goût, ne s’accorde qu’avec une tenue extrêmement décalée …un jean / T-shirt , une robe simplissime. Sinon il fait vite un peu grand-mère avec une tenue plus classique, plus sévère.

Oh, c’était également devenu un moment une obsession pour moi. Au début j’en étais tombée amoureuse mais je me disais que c’était hors prix pour moi. Mais je ne pouvais pas m’empêcher d’y penser, de réfléchir sérieusement à en acquérir un. Ensuite, je me suis mise à économiser tout doucement en attendant le jour J. Vous ne pouvez imaginer mon impatience. Et ce n’était pas tout. Il fallait que je me rende à Paris (j’aurais également pu faire le choix d’une autre ville, notamment dans mon pays, mais je voulais absolument l’acheter là-bas et puis je pouvais bénéficier de la détaxe. Si je ne m’abuse, je pense avoir payé environs 3000 euros pour la taille moyenne à Paris, je ne me souviens plus si c’était avec ou sans la détaxe). Et l’été dernier me voilà donc à Paris pour un stage, avec l’argent nécessaire en poche. Mais je devais encore patienter quelques jours car mon mari m’avait accompagner pour profiter avec moi de la ville avant le début de mon stage et avec lui, qui s’ennuie à faire les boutiques, je n’aurais jamais pu me donner le temps de savourer le plaisir du moment réservé à l’achat. Après son retour, j’ai donc foncé dans une boutique Chanel. Vous ne me croirez jamais mais j’y ai passé trois jours:)) Le premier jour, je n’ai pas pu décider entre la taille moyenne et la grande taille. Comme je ne suis pas très grande de taille, le grand sac paraissait trop grand pour moi. Avec l’aide des vendeuses et vendeurs (car je pense qu’un moment j’ai fini par demander l’avis de toute l’équipe) que je remercie à l’occasion pour leur gentillesse et leur patience (ce n’est pas toujours le cas dans les grandes maisons), voire de certaines clientes, j’ai fini par décider de prendre la taille moyenne et fort heureusement je ne le regrette pas. Mais la décision a vraiment été difficile. Je voulais bien réfléchir car, comme je le disais, aux vendeuses ce n’est pas tous les jours que je m’achète un sac Chanel et “ce serait sans doute le premier et le dernier”. L’ironie c’est que même si vous n’avez pas les moyens, en voyant tout ce monde dans la boutique essayer toute sorte d’articles de cette grande marque, vous avez l’impression que vous pouvez tout acheter. Si j’ai mis tant de temps à renoncer à la taille grande de ce sac, c’est que je me disais qu’il n’y avait pas une grande différence de prix et que je pourrais le porter plus souvent en allant notamment au boulot avec l’idée d’y fourrer plus de choses. Mais je me trompais, ces sacs sont vraiment très délicats. Il faut vraiment en prendre un grand soin, ne pas y mettre trop de chose et surtout faire très attention à ne pas abimer le cuir qui peut se griffer très facilement. J’étais donc trop contente (sentiment indicible) d’avoir pu enfin pu m’offrir ce classique de Chanel. Mais j’étais un peu triste à l’idée de devoir le porter occasionnellement. Et bien finalement, moi qui n’avais cessez de dire aux vendeuses “je veux bien réfléchir, je ne veux pas me précipiter car c’est pour moi une décision importante vu que je n’aurais sans doute plus l’occasion de m’en offrir un autre sac Chanel”, j’ai forcé mes moyens financiers pour m’acheter un second sac Chanel de rue, que j’ai payé autant, mais qui est plus grand et que je peux porter quand je veux:))) voilà mon histoire chanel, j’ai été peut-être un peu long, merci pour votre patience avec l’espoir que toutes celles qui en rêvent pourront se le permettre un jour comme moi!!!

In the UK, the classic Chanel 2.55 has become the accessory of the celebrity obsessed masses. It’s strange, as you say, a Chanel bag (like the Birkin) was something one worked for and aspired to own but it would seem no more. We have a lot of shows in the UK about people who don’t really do anything but look great whilst doing so and I am sad to report that the Chanel bag is their handbag of choice… For me the only way to undo this inversion of the status symbol is to own a vintage Chanel bag. What do you think? x

bah nan… déjà vu vu vu et revu, avec une nette dominante chez les femmes cul serré, conservatrices, qui sont coincées dans un dress-code vert sapin et bleu marine parisien bourgeois catholique, bref… C’est certainement trop associé à des images comme ca pour que je puisse vraiment en rêver.
Et je ne le trouve pas joli (l’aspect matelassé), SM (la chaîne), pas pratique (la chaîne, trop petit).
Cela dit, on peut aussi t’imaginer les cheveux lissés au carré avec un serre-tête blanc, une jupe marine sous le genou, chemisier blanc col Claudine fermé jusqu’au cou, gilet fin vert sapin jeté en cape sur les épaules, des mocassins plats bordeaux cirés… En mode décalé. ;))))

Il est magnifique, merveilleux et fait tellement rêver! J’ai l’espoir qu’il m’appartienne un jour!

I thought about starting a bag fund to save up for one just like the photo (about US$3000 perhpas). I thought about starting a Hermes Birkin fund, too (about $10,000).

The fact is, I have enough in the bank to buy them both at the same time today but I am not going to.

Some collect icon bags. I can name a few beside Chanel and Birkin. But to me bags are to be used, to enhance my outfits in a functional/practical way. I don’t use clutch bags and hand held bags because I need both hands free. I like backpack, messenger, and shoulder/tote not structured. I don’t like night club size or jumbo size.

Most importantly, i don’t like heavy bags or too delicate bags (leather easily scratched, even though I don’t abuse my bags).

Chanel the chain bothers me (too slippery) and the leather needs to be babied. NO

Birbik is a hand held bag. NO

Celine trapeze is HEAVY. NO

Balenciaga the shoulder strap is too short as a messenger. NO

LV are mostly hand held (although I’d consider Mini Noe). NO

Philip Lim Pashli and Alexander Wang bottom studded bags are HEAVY. NO

So there, I said it. I don’t like most of the it bags. It’s not about the money. It’s not about the quality and design. They are just not what I’d use. Why waste good $ to have a fabulous bag sitting on the shelf?

It’s beautiful, but I prefer a less logo-driven, identifiable bag. If I were going to splurge on a designer bag (and I can’t really afford one), I would get one that whispers rather than shouts.

J’en ai un acheté en dépôt vente mais avec la anse large en cuir matelassé, plus actuel, moins vu et en cuir grainé pour ne pas en faire un sac compliqué à porter car trop fragile…

J’aime beaucoup ce sac, c’est un iconique. Je pense que je ne pourrai le porter que vers 40 ans, c’est un sac de dame dur à porter jeune je trouve… Mais il est tellement beau!

If a girl in a cool outfit decides to put it on, for me it means she just wanted to “show” she “knows” what is “chic”. But only proves that she desn’t have the personality to refuse standards.

There are many other classics much more pretty than this! But you know…the brand is strong, so people “dream” no matter what it is.
