And We’re Off!

Have you noticed? Shoulders are out! Women are embracing the off-the-shoulder with open arms …pun intended. It’s a funny thing to see so much skin present on the streets without being overtly sexualized. The collarbone draws such a beautiful line to the shoulder, a feminine detail we often forget about until sunbeams start shining.
Beyond how (surprisingly) flattering the style is – it’s also trending, hard. As in, you walk outside and can’t go two blocks without seeing a women wearing some variation. Even Em showed up to the studio with a cute striped dress version (from Zara, go now!). But it begs the question, is it just a trend or is it an item we should consider keeping in our wardrobes no matter the season?

That black dress is gorgeous. Instant movie star.
It’s only a trend! you can’t buy anything which isn’t a trend, trends are everywhere ..even in dishes for your new kitchen..it’s something that has become a must everywhere…that’s why you can’t find a color you love when it’s not in fashion..trends kill the trends all the labels are doing the same things the same color and shapes…and that’s the new dictator !!!
Lets be free of trends and do as we like!!!
years ago you could see the same shapes and form as today than 15y has passed and we are back again…that’s the name of the game..all the young girls are sure it is new but the other had already bought it and weare it…we need to be more creative and find new way of changing the trends that take control on our life and find something more personal unique!!!

Amen!!
You read my mind! I always struggle with not finding items that I would like to wear, and when I do, then it’s everywhere.
I feel such a sense of Deja vu, seeing all those 90s outfits all over the place. I guess it most have been how my mom felt in the 90s seeing her 70s outfits all over the place. Any way, been there and done that. I don’t think I can wear another floral shift dress/skirt, flare pant, crop shirt again. The good news is trends r coming n going way faster so this will go away fast enough.
Yael, how I agree with you, trends are boring! They seem exciting at first, but then you see women of every shape and personality wearing the same things.

I used to love this style!
I had a pink off shoulder sweater that I would wear forever. I guess I still have it somewhere… :)

La robe noire, sans hesitation.
Off the shoulder means strapless bra for me and I have yet to find a comfortable one I can wear all day.
The problem in a nutshell. Off the shoulder is lovely and when I was young and tiny and eschewed bras it was fine, but no longer. And I am from the generation that abhors bra straps so even boat necks are out.
C’est extrêmement joli à condition d’avoir des épaules et un long cou (enfin un joli cou pas forcément long mais avec un beau port de tête)…
Pour le coup c’est une tendance que je vais suivre ! J’adore, c’est tellement joli et feminin.
I think this is just another fun case of a trend that was great back in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s… That has made it’s way around again – for a new debut – for about the 10th time (just ask me who is 62). I love it and am digging out my “hello shoulders” tops and dresses from the mothballs as we speak. Why, even our beloved “Bill” did a big piece on it in this past Sunday Times.
I’ve been obsessed with this trend all spring. It may be the super hot climate I’m now living in (humid and sticky Korea compared to cooler, dry summers in Canada), but I don’t think I’ll be letting it go anytime soon. The off shoulder trend is dominating my wardrobe, despite bare shoulders being a bit taboo among the older crowd here. Lots of stares are had, and one girl slapped her boyfriend for staring since it’s a rarer sight, even in Seoul.
