Winterized

Winter weighs on us. And we all have to adapt: to the elements, to the shortening of the hours, to the loss of sunlight. We generally – like polar bears – start to store just a little bit of extra sustenance around our hips, just in case. Winter damages our skin, our hair, and sometimes even our spirits.
At the studio we rely heavily on products to get us through the colder months, and we are always on the hunt for more! We caught up with Annina Mislin, Ramya Giangola, and Jana Wirth while they were running between shows this fashion week (dodging the snow and the rain) to see how they nourish and protect their skin and hair during the winter months.
Jana Wirth
“Skin: For cold winter months I use organic Argan Oil on my face from Josie Maran. Before I apply rose water which helps absorb oil.
Makeup: I have the same makeup look all year round: I use the foundation stick from Bobbi Brown, applied with a wet sponge, and Chanel for blush.
Hair: I have bleached hair which can get dry and brittle in the cold. My colorist recommended a combination of concentre vita-ciment and aqua-oleum – both rinse out treatments from Kérastase which work great together.”
Annina Mislin
“Skin: I live in Los Angeles so it doesn’t get too cold during the winter months, however I travel to New York for work so finding a balance can be tricky. Recently I’ve been using Biologique Recherche skin care. Their P50 Balancing Exfoliator (day and night) is amazing for dry skin and their Masque Vivant (twice a week) is great for brightness and tone, but honestly the whole line is amazing… It’s hard to go wrong!
Makeup: I prefer a lighter concealer year round but especially in colder climates… I find the coverage looks more natural especially if I have any dry skin. Glossier’s Perfecting Skin Tint in Medium is what I’m using now. I switch my brown mascara to Dior Show Mascara in black and Stila Waterproof Eye Liner in black.
Hair: To cut the winter frizz Garrett Markenson Reverie Milk is lightweight and smells so good! If I’m wearing my hair back I use a bit of Malin + Goetz Sage Styling Cream. As far as hair color, I go a bit darker (brown) to save myself from looking washed out.”
Ramya Giangola
“Skin: for skincare during the winter months I rely solely on the advice of my amazing friend and skincare guru Georgia Louise. I layer on her serums and Biologique Recherche’s amazing Crème Masque Vernix, which keeps my skin super hydrated. I also make sure we have humidifiers going at home at all times to keep the air from drying out and drink tons and tons of water. For my body, I pile on a heavier moisturizing cream from La Roche Posay.
Makeup: although I am not a heavy makeup person and tend to stick to concealer for under the eyes and spots only, I have found recently that I need a bit more color on my cheeks and some mascara to get me through the winter doldrums. So I use a bit of extra blush, usually layering a By Terry blush glaze formula with NARS Orgasm Powder and an extra coat of Faux Cils Mascara from YSL.
Hair: I really hate having to blow dry my hair as its changes the texture and look, which means that in the winter I have to wash it early enough that I’m not walking out of the house with wet hair. I condition it a bit more in the winter then towel and air dry. I love SachaJuan products and have been layering on the conditioning spray. Once it’s dry, I flat iron the ends to give it a straighter textured feel. I see Marie Robinson for color every few months and in the winter she is great about making sure that there is still a brightness to the tone so it doesn’t get dull.”
Some of our favorites around the studio are Vita Coco Coconut Oil, Vintner’s Daughter, Tata Harper’s Fortifying Body Lotion & Glossier’s Coconut Balm Dotcom.
How do you adjust your beauty routine when the weather gets harsh? We would love to hear your suggestions too!
I love this post! I will definitely look into the hair products :)
Last week I shared on my blog all my favourite products that saved my dry skin from the windy, cold, London weather! The Babor Ampoules play a big role in my skin care routine now!
If anyone here has dry and sensitive skin check out my post, Babor honestly saved me this winter!!

I never actually thought about changing my skincare routine for winter and I feel that mine works for me a whole year around. I’m partial to using a bit of bronzer in the winter to give it a healthy glow as my skin is super light. The only thing I do change is my hair, I go darker for winter and insist on going more blonde for the summer- even if my hairdresser calls it “blonde for no reason” :)

nice and interesting !!http://intelligently-sexy.centerblog.net
But, also: maybe all of this winter damage does to our beauty what it does to nature…FERTILIZES, for example: cold temperatures could be good for the vasculature because it trains blood vessels in the skin to be responsive.” So, rosy cheeks! And if you have dry skin, I recommend moisturizing (curel lotion is just good- no shalala expensive creams!)
ALSO, There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you.
I use oils in winter for nighttime. Otherwise I don’t change my beauty regimes much.
I just wear more clothes and keep myself warm! :)

J’ai découvert la crème “elemental facialbarrier cream” d’AESOP, crème pour le visage contre les éléments. Parfaite pour braver le froid et le vent. L’odeur que je n’aime pas disparait très vite.

Gorgeous women and photos!!
I also hate blow-drying my hair, so in the winter I try to let it air-dry while I get ready(fortunately I have really short hair). But I still often leave the house with slightly damp hair. Here in Italy, people are constantly telling me that I will get neckaches and headaches and all of the other ailments that seem to go along with wet hair. Although they also tell me this in the summer, so I don’t think it is temperature-related :) But other than trying to leave the house with dry hair, I also use more face oils in the winter. I have recently discovered Marula oil and have been loving the results!

For the cold winter months, Weleda Skin Food is a life-saver! I also couldn’t survive without my Oille Naturals serums – soooo moisturizing.

I have mature skin and have recently started using Eucerin’s Hyaluronic filler range. I have rosacea and go very flushed looking in all the wrong places ? It has made an immediate impact on the wrinkles and the rosacea isn’t raised any more. Very pleased to have discovered this range for mature sensitive skin. My hair is another story. It’s gone greasier and frizzier with the damp air. Still searching for a wonder product for this.
Great post! I live in Miami so it’s always kind of humid but when I go back to visit my family in Canada or on trips to Paris or NY my skin is shocked! So I layer many products, usually I will layer and essence and then an oil and then a moisturizer. And I swear by Egyptian Magic cream for my body as I often get dry, red patches on my arms in the winter.
