Winter weighs on us. And we all have to adapt: to the elements, to the shortening of the hours, to the loss of sunlight. We generally – like polar bears – start to store just a little bit of extra sustenance around our hips, just in case. Winter damages our skin, our hair, and sometimes even our spirits.

At the studio we rely heavily on products to get us through the colder months, and we are always on the hunt for more! We caught up with Annina Mislin, Ramya Giangola, and Jana Wirth while they were running between shows this fashion week (dodging the snow and the rain) to see how they nourish and protect their skin and hair during the winter months.

Jana Wirth

“Skin: For cold winter months I use organic Argan Oil on my face from Josie Maran. Before I apply rose water which helps absorb oil.

Makeup: I have the same makeup look all year round: I use the foundation stick from Bobbi Brown, applied with a wet sponge, and Chanel for blush.

Hair: I have bleached hair which can get dry and brittle in the cold. My colorist recommended a combination of concentre vita-ciment and aqua-oleum – both rinse out treatments from Kérastase which work great together.”

Annina Mislin

“Skin: I live in Los Angeles so it doesn’t get too cold during the winter months, however I travel to New York for work so finding a balance can be tricky. Recently I’ve been using Biologique Recherche skin care. Their P50 Balancing Exfoliator (day and night) is amazing for dry skin and their Masque Vivant (twice a week) is great for brightness and tone, but honestly the whole line is amazing… It’s hard to go wrong!

Makeup: I prefer a lighter concealer year round but especially in colder climates… I find the coverage looks more natural especially if I have any dry skin. Glossier’s Perfecting Skin Tint in Medium is what I’m using now. I switch my brown mascara to Dior Show Mascara in black and Stila Waterproof Eye Liner in black.

Hair: To cut the winter frizz Garrett Markenson Reverie Milk is lightweight and smells so good! If I’m wearing my hair back I use a bit of Malin + Goetz Sage Styling Cream. As far as hair color, I go a bit darker (brown) to save myself from looking washed out.”

Ramya Giangola

“Skin: for skincare during the winter months I rely solely on the advice of my amazing friend and skincare guru Georgia Louise. I layer on her serums and Biologique Recherche’s amazing Crème Masque Vernix, which keeps my skin super hydrated. I also make sure we have humidifiers going at home at all times to keep the air from drying out and drink tons and tons of water. For my body, I pile on a heavier moisturizing cream from La Roche Posay.

Makeup: although I am not a heavy makeup person and tend to stick to concealer for under the eyes and spots only, I have found recently that I need a bit more color on my cheeks and some mascara to get me through the winter doldrums. So I use a bit of extra blush, usually layering a By Terry blush glaze formula with NARS Orgasm Powder and an extra coat of Faux Cils Mascara from YSL.

Hair: I really hate having to blow dry my hair as its changes the texture and look, which means that in the winter I have to wash it early enough that I’m not walking out of the house with wet hair. I condition it a bit more in the winter then towel and air dry. I love SachaJuan products and have been layering on the conditioning spray. Once it’s dry, I flat iron the ends to give it a straighter textured feel. I see Marie Robinson for color every few months and in the winter she is great about making sure that there is still a brightness to the tone so it doesn’t get dull.”
