I am in Tokyo for the first time in my life, and really… It’s like a dream.
I realized today that the city is sooo mystical. I was really worried of being disappointed. Well, I am not.
The people are the kindest in the universe and sooooo well-mannered*, the food is as unsettling as expected**… And its the same thing for fashion, you have to get used to extreme flavors and crazy mixes. Men are super fashionable (I LOVE their style) and girls have so much fun with their make up, hair colors and manicures.
Yoon, who is an amazing graphic artist and jewelry designer (you can check her wonderful world here), that I met today told me it’s really the thing to do in Tokyo. No, Garance, you can’t stay like that with you nails all naked, come on*** !
Ok, that said, I have to go: I am not on vacation here but shooting a Pardon My French for Dior – I am so excited, I’ll tell you about it soon and I’ll definitely try to get a manicure. I mean, come on, they can even stick Hello Kitty on your nails – WHO COULD RESIST THAT !!!?? ;-)
Big kisses and see you later !
—–
*I am preparing some posts about Japanese manners right now – I mean compared to them I feel like a savage !
**Talking about savage, you should see the faces I make when I taste some of the food !
***You savage !
Her hair is so fun! And hooray for more Pardon My French!! :)

On a hâte maintenant de découvrir tes aventures à Tokyo !

haha right?! Some people have crazy nails here! One of my students even has a real diamond embedded into her manicure! I don’t go quite that crazy, but it’s kind of fun to be in a city where it’s totally acceptable to go all out when it comes to nails.
I saw that you arrived in Tokyo on instagram, soooo coooool http://fut-il.com/il-porte/716738.html
no please, Hello Kitty in your nails is something I’m not ready to see… on the other hand, I’m happy about that new ‘pardon my french’, hope to be able to watch it soon!!!
http://brandnewbyanna.blogspot.com

I went to Tokyo last December and I left there my heart…. so huge, so energic, so full of everything!! An incredible city, really!! My favorite places are Asakusa and Shibuya…but what about Ginza?! Too chic for my eyes, I couldn’t believe in what I saw! :) An advise: visit the Tokyo Tower!
Enjoy your time in Japan,

Great pic und color of the hairs. Garance I wish you a good time in Tokyo and wait for your Pardon my french for Dior. Bravo for this job. You’r the best.
P.S. I love you today MY FAVORITES. Classic and so elegant.
It’s so cool that she paired sheer shorts over a tight jump suit – I haven’t seen this choice done before
Manners AND beauty! Wander down an alley and find unexpected beauty everywhere. Not just the nails are manicured. One of my favorite places in the world. Each neighborhood has such distinct character, so much more than any western city. Hope you get to see some temples/gardens… Can’t wait to see your project :-)
What an enchanting photograph Garance! One of my favourite of yours as of late and cannot wait to hear more (I loved the Pardon My French episodes!)

fashion, art, music, architecture – everything in such a wirl-wind-way
Salut Garance!

Garance,
Super Amazing, my dream to visit Japan too.
Pardon my French, but this is so ****ing inspiring Garance!
http://www.streetlook.fr
Definitely a no-holds-barred everything when it comes to Toyko. Can’t wait to see more of your visit and the Dior video. My 3 year old is a Hello Kitty fan and she would tell you to go for it! Happy travels!
My friend is from Tokyo and she spends 5 hours at the hairdressers! Apparently not unusual. And another thing, Japanese cannot say NO, which really makes you learn to read the face language…
Oh no.. she looks amazing, love her hair, it fits her perfectly and the whole looks amazing!
Beau raccord cheveux/pantalon ! :)

Dear Garance, don’t get confused between manners and what seems extreme kindness (also from strangers) and the secret belief all the Japanese entertain: that you are only a rough and gross gaijin. They seem so utterly kind that it blows you away, you think they just love you, then you discover that what they think of you is completely different…Dommage!
Rhaaaa, Garance!!

You REALLY REALLY need to go to Kichijoji (Nakamichi Street),and of course Shinjuku, Shibuya … the list is endless. I lived there for a year and worked as a studio musician. I worked in jazz clubs, funk venues and worked as a session musician. It was a life altering experience. I lived in Kichijoji and worked 6 or 7 nights a week and came home as everybody was GOING to work!! Seeing a sea of people coming towards you at Shinjuku train station was awesome! My work ethic was changed for ever (I’m a workaholic) and I’m a gadget girl!!
WOW, that girl’s outfit and whole her look is crazy good!!! Can’t imagine me looking like her, but again – WOW!!!
they do this sooo well…the sheer lilac pants….great personal style…
Trop cool, profite!

Wow quelle chance!
Pray for Japan
wow! excited for more of the mystery of japan to be revealed! one thing that’s been cleared up by your girl above, is that the japanese woman is chic, chic, chic.
looking forward to the video.
my old boss lived in japan for a time, and he would tell us about certain japanese customs regarding giving and taking money from customers. it was all very elegant and decorous.

Wow, this is quite the outfit. The longer I look at it the more exciting it gets. At first I didn’t even notice she’s wearing see-through trousers over a jumpsuit! Who would have thought that could look so cool?
I’m very much looking forward to another episode of Pardon My French but even more to your post on Japanese manners! I’m reading a book by Kazuo Ishiguro (great writer, I really can recommend all of his books) that is set in Japan right after world war 2 and it really has me wondering wether the culture has changed much when it comes to the importancy of good manners. Can’t wait to read what you have found out!
love the hair!!

Et tu dis “génicologue” aussi ???
Enjoy Tokyo et Hello Kitty !
Totally not my style, but still love it! :)
I checked out Yoon’s website. It’s cool fashion apart from the female models all having their eyes surgically altered. I think un-cut Asian eyes are so much more beautiful.
Really love Japanese style. Really love Japanese food. Have a great time Garance!

I was in Tokyo just last week (my fourth visit to Japan) and confess that I am utterly in love with the place.
It is just like you say; a wonderful fusion of incredible manners and beautifully preserved history and cultural traditions juxtaposed with the furiously modern, quirky and cute (I love that the men are so cool, and that you will see a woman wearing a corporate suit with a cluster of hello kitty charms hanging from her phone).
Have fun Garance!

Hello Garance,
Encore un voyage, chouette! But sorry my english, la langue anglaise se serait-elle emparée de toi ? Manicure en Amérique, manucure in french !
Bonnes découvertes à toi,
Marie
ok I am back today for a second viewing of this remarkable photo. But I really wanna see her shoes! Do you have a full length shot? can you please post it. much obliged.
I love Japan. Tokyo is amazing! Enjoy!!
Cette nana est sublime
WooooWW!!
Woah – this woman is FIERCE! The hair, the make-up, the accessories…sexy-glam-rock-siren-from-heaven! I love the fact that even though this is an admittedly wild look, it’s totally pulled together in a careful, considered way. Not everyone can pull of purple locks, Winehouse eyeliner and lemon – but she makes it work and then some. Oh my god: Are they SHEER PANTS? With a TEXTA FLOWER PRINTED ROMPER?! If so, this ensemble to soared to a whole new level of avant garde awesomeness. I almost can’t cope. This chic is SICK! Love.
http://www.fashion-sessions.com/
She looks fantastic. It is interesting that young Japanese women often dress so extremely (in a good way) as a reaction to a very controlled, formal society, but that there are very distinct “tribes” each with their own tropes: conformist non-conformity. I worked for a Japanese company for five years and the contradictions were immense. I do worry about hello kitty though: a female character with no mouth and so no voice….
Great post.Much thanks again. Want more.
I love this photo that you took of Yoon from Ambush Design! Her style is fun!
Very nice color !
