Sail Away
9 years ago by
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a captain’s hat look so chic. I first fell in love with them while on vacation in Greece a few years ago, but — although they looked elegant in their own way — the local fishermen didn’t pull off this look quite as well as Alex Rubio does here…
After a sea of knitted beanies and wide brim felt hats, it’s such a striking look. It’s so practical for winter (but still different!), and her hair tucked in under her leather jacket makes it feel so Parisian. I’m not sure exactly where her look transports me, but it’s definitely not winter in New York — maybe more a fishing town in the Mediterranean or the streets of the first arrondissement?
Hat, Boutique Saint James; Jacket, No. 21.
Just sublime! My grandfather wore a cap like this when we were on vacation on the Mediterranean ;-)

Very pretty woman and picture, I wore that hat in the 90s. But i beg to disagree: cultural appropriation doesn’t make anything look better, and real sailors will always pull it off in style without even trying. Mostly because their aesthetics is practical, I feel, and therefore rich with context and life.
There is definitely beauty in necessity! Thank you for the thoughtful comment x
I agree with what I think you are saying. Style is great on it’s own, but it’s best when there is a layer of substance, when there’s a reason for being for the item worn, when there is a story or something behind it.
Well I prefer felt hats like the one you recommended the other day:

Definitely Parisian references! I love her “no make up make up’, too…

Beautiful pic!
Passa a trovarmi VeryFP
Let me ask: is this exactly the same jacket on her as that one from No. 21? I mean Alex’s jacket has kinda different detailing.
Oh I love this look. The whole photo is stunning. Neada you’re such a beautiful person.
The stitching on the jacket looks perfect, the hat is cool and the way you wear your hair is so natural, but chic;
I am so impressed by this photo.

By the way, les marins méditerranéens préfèrent les bérets.
I love captain hats

I like the variety! It reminds me of what Andy wears in The Devil Wears Prada. So cute!
I love the hat! I have a tweed newsboy cap from H&M that I love but I haven’t tried this kind yet. Love your photos

I have dozen of those for years … Always loved the adventurous idea of it in the city as much as on a boat
Superbe photo!! Et superbe fille. J’adore.
I just adore this look! So perfect. What a cutie.
Love the style, and the hat is real chic.
