Dear Yves,
First off, what a brilliant name.
When presented an opportunity to peek into my favorite designer’s mind and all that inspired you, I couldn’t resist. I had the pleasure of getting to see the evolution of your style and success at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Exhibition. Imaginative from a young age, you made “haute couture” paper dolls as a teenager in 1953. On to Dior, where you launched the fashion of the 1960s before losing your job (the crocodile and mink interpretation of beatniks and bikers were too ahead of your time I suppose). You were a rockstar, a celebrity really.
So many designers today take inspiration from your gender-bending use of pant suits and tuxedos-as-dresses, which I couldn’t be more devoted to owning one day. And while I’ve never been one to wear too much color, the explosion of cadmium yellows and emerald greens you ventured into left me with a new respect for exploring color and a deeper interest in discovering Marrakech – where you and Pierre created a beautiful home so many would aspire to even years after you passed.
A seriously cool visionary, I will always admire you.

Nicely said! Yves was definitely one of the most inspirational designers ever. And he had great taste in muses :)
I’m going to see this exhibit today. The museum is just a ten minute walk from my home. I’ll walk slowly with purpose and of course my own style. After visiting his Blue House in Morocco I continue to be fascinated not only by his talent but his innate sense of beauty.
