Rocket scientists are inventing a new high heel.
Yep, that headline caught our attention. First, is this really something that rocket scientists, some of our greatest innovators, should be focused on? Well, they are. And their ambition is all about re-engineering the high heel to ensure better distribution of weight and better support.
Basically, taking as much pain out of wearing heels as possible. As Dolly Singh, founder of the company behind the concept, Thesis, says in this video, “bringing comfortable and sexy together.” So, what do you think? A positive thing for the industry and world at large, or a should heels just be kept in the when-it’s-worth-the-trouble box?
Heels, Zara.
Très intéressant.

i wonder if heels can be worn with zero pain! i doubt it! :)

The brand Sargossa already offers “pain-free heels”… their shoes were even featured in an exhibtion at the Victoria&Albert museum…
I love when Dolly Singh says ‘it’s really important for comfortable and sexy to work together. I think the idea that they’ve been mutually exclusive is the problem”. I’m probably never going back to wearing 3-inch-high heals. But comfort and sexual appeal being at odds with each other is a gendered concept and a gendered problem, for which women have historically suffered disproportionately (and still do). I wish there was a beautiful solution to it.
Yes! Well said.
that’s got to be a great idea! Hope they crack it x

I think it’s great! Of course no one is saying it should be more important than finding a cure for cancer but I think this is the result of finally having a generation of female engineers and scientist coming into their own! I think if we had had more female scientists & engineers in the past, this problem would have been solved decades ago.
When I visit the Physics building at my school I haven’t noticed a whole lot of women. I doubt the top dogs at NASA are now designing shoes, but considering how much Obama has cut that budget, who knows.
I’m SO looking forward to this! :)

Brilliant! I know Taryn Rose tried to do this with her line, but I don’t think her shoes are the least bit attractive. Looking forward to seeing these shoes hit the market.
So in love with your post.Beautiful!
