In the Know

The Del Val #47

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families on both sides of Wednesday’s barbaric actions. The sudden loss of a son’s or brother’s physical life is the hardest to cope with and the loss of a son’s or brother’s life devoted to a blinding religious extremism carries its own difficult weight. That goes for all people and all religions on this planet which we all share. Here’s how parts of the world reacted.

On to what you expect on Fridays when you click on this page:

“Currently, sell-through at stockists is 100 percent.” A dream, surely, for any new brand entering the competitive handbag market. Which one is it and why is the demand what it is?

Genes like Karlie is blessed with having are an enviable start, but she still has to do something to keep her legs looking their best. So do you, and these will assist.

She’s absolutely right. What is it about such simple, repetitive actions that can make them so captivating? Time to start meditating to GIFs?

Emojis are clearly here to stay and since they’re used so often in our digital writing, why not start drawing with them as well.

Sure, drink an expensive juice now and again, or even on a regular basis if you’ve fallen for all the health claims, but please do so quietly. We’re laughing at what she’s saying for a reason.

What an elegant way to live with two other families if a person lived in Kuwait. Curious, are any of you right now reading this in Kuwait?

There’s never been a more exciting time to launch a new company (perhaps that’s just our Yankee optimism speaking) however do keep these points in mind if you’re about to do so.

We, and no one we know, is lacking for anything. You’re likely in the same situation. In fact, we all have too, too much stuff. Your #1 resolution for the year should be to get rid of much of that stuff. This will help. Note, we recommend downloading it for free if he’s choosing to offer it that way.

A weekly round up of the best links from Delphine & Wes Del Val.

Les frères Kouachi sont orphelins donc bon…. Il n’y a qu’un seul camp à blâmer et un seul camp à pleurer!

  • They are not sympathizing with the murderers. They are sympathizing with the family of the murderers who, as far as we know, are innocent (perhaps) in this entire event but will have to live with the repercussions for the rest of their lives.

There are only two camps yes, the people who would do such horrendous things and the people who wouldn’t.

Actually, there is a third, and that is the camp of the heroes: people who fight bravely to make the world a better place. They don’t usually care about ‘camps to blame’.

  • Quelle triste histoire qui touche la France ces derniers jours

Grosse pensée à toutes les familles des victimes

I guess you know the metrics of your readers better than I do, but this strikes me as a bit presumptuous. Do you really not have readers who are students, young professionals, aspiring creatives, etc. who are living bare bones and paycheck to paycheck? Who are stuck volunteering for multimillion-dollar companies in order to get a foot in the door (oh excuse me, are being blessed with work experience via “unpaid internships”)? Whose entire lives fit in a sedan? Whose disposable income all goes toward student debt instead of “stuff”? I’m sure you know plenty of young people like this who work really hard to hide it. Maybe your #1 resolution should be not projecting your own lived experiences on others.

    Bien d’accord. Complétement déplacé….pfff

  • Reading from Kuwait. :-)

swiss miss: great inspiration. Thank you for sharing that link!

  • First off, I want to say that whether or not someone writes about something, it does not take away from how they feel. This is a lifestyle/fashion/art blog. This is not a news blog, or a news forum. Garance and her team are artists, not reporters. Sometimes things that are very painful to you are the bardest to write about. I am not French so I cannot comment to how hard it was to write about this situation, I think everyone should definitely hold their own counsel regarding her reasoning for writing or not writing about this tragedy. We should not put upon others what we do in their place, we should simply embrace their right to remain silent should they need to gather their thoughts.

The only thing I will say is this, I am Jewish. And in my mind, much has been made of the Charlie Hebdo staff and not of the people who were just minding their own business, buying Kosher groceries. The fact that I could be gunned down or kidnapped or held hostage while going about my daily routine just because I am a Jew in itself horrifies me. Instead of focusing on Charlie Hebdo, maybe all of the commenters should also focus on the actual level of intolerance towards Jewish people that is occurring in Europe.

Maybe I do not know anything, I’m simply a long time reader of this blog who wanted to speak up/comment finally. Peace to Garance, and peace to all of the people who have lost people in this tragedy, that includes the Jewish Community of France/Paris, the staff of the newspaper as well as the family of the perpetrators.

  • I feel very sorry our post was so misunderstood and to see how people can jump to conclusion so quickly and believe we would feel sorry for the killers…

I understand France and French people are particularly sensitive right now to all that is written, I am French myself, my family walked yesterday, I spent the day on the phone with them, and online watching videos and looking at photos… filled with emotions.

And I am very saddened to read how some readers are reacting so strongly, I guess it is best to stay very light on political subjects here…

We LOVE collaborating with Garance and her blog and thank you to all the readers of our weekly posts!
I hope you will continue to read…
