The Brush

9 years ago by

The most important part of painting your nails…

Okay, maybe it’s the second most important part after picking the color (I’m wearing Gold Viper from the NARS x 3.1 Phillip Lim collection–it’s a pretty much perfect metallic) is the brush.

I’ve tried a lot of nail polishes, so I know how important a good brush is. Too skinny of a brush and you’ll be left with a streaky finish, too firm of a brush, the coats will be uneven. You need a wide, soft brush for optimal coverage (fewer strokes, fewer streaks!) and the new NARS polishes have nailed it in the brush department. It’s one of the best I’ve ever used!

  • i don’t like the fat brush: it doesn’t work for me :)

J’approuve totalement.

  • Yes super important! Big difference in quality between different brands of nailpolish as well. Wouldn’t it be possible to buy a brush separate from the polish though..? Never thought about it before. Just like you can with a host of other make-up utensils?

I am dying! That is an AMAZING colour and I CANNOT find it online in Australia (I live in an isolated rural area).. I wonder if the Essie brand metallic gold is just as good?! I can get it online….

I have some very old Revlon nail polish that has the perfect brush.. 2 swipes and the nail is covered… Narrow brushes are the worst… 5 swipes and then the end of the nail gets all lumpy….

  • I have the Essie Good as Gold colour and its nice, covers well, but its a bit pale, not a strong yellow gold if that’s what you’re looking for. Oh, and DO NOT top it with matte top coat. It looks very very gross. Only glossy.

  • The gold polish rocks! I think the brush is important but the formula of the varnish is vital. I really hate watery, thin polishes.

  • That color is amazing, I love metallic nail polishes. I find that Sephora brushes are good, and Mavala, too. I totally agree about the fact that a brush must be soft.

  • La couleur est parfaite!

  • Bonjour, Garance!

    Merci beaucoup!

Agreed – but have you tried the Dior Addict Varnish?
Such a great brush – it spreads across the nail

The most important part of nail painting is trimming your cuticles.

  • I’m pretty sure they changed all the brushes on the NARS reformulations that have been out (or will be out) recently!

  • Nars always know what they are doing. The brush looks great and that gold colour is just fantastic!
