Save My Jeans!

From a budding crude! Oil that is…
Recently, while attending the theatre (yes, okay, it was just the movies!) – I took my new blue jeans for a test drive. I ordered a small popcorn to really indulge my independent weekend activity. But, as I realized all too late, as I placed said popcorn ever so gently on my leg for JUST a moment, to my horror, two small blotches of oil appeared on jeans. Shame, shame, shame…
So, I consulted my mother. Her two suggestions:
1. Dawn dish soap works best – put a good coating on and rub in with fingers, then wash in warm water.
2. Embroider something. (A hippie at heart)
Low and behold the dish detergent worked! A real jean saver, especially since my embroidery skills aren’t what they used to be. Moms: they always know the answer, don’t they?

It’s super simple… just take a bit of talco powder, put on the oil blotches, wait 10 minutes, then rub away the talco..and the jeans are back!
XOX, Gap.

I heard dawn is amazing! have to try it next time!

My solution is similar to GAP, above. A simple chalk stick would also resolve the issue. Just dab the chalk directly onto the grease spot, and the chalk sucks it up. After a short time, just brush the chalk residue away, and the grease should be gone.
Cheers!
Yep, moms definitely know best, and, that is exactly what I do when I get an oil stain — and it is what I have advised my two adult sons to do as well.
Great suggestions !

Thanks for the tip! Mom’s are the greatest!
I have issues making my own salad dressing, I always get some on something! Sigh.
Definitely dish soap. Though I think maybe it needn’t be Dawn (I haven’t personally tried anything else, but feel like it should be fine as long as it’s for getting oil off pots!)
Works for most silk, too (though you may risk colorfastness/water wash issues). Source: oil painter. Trust me, I know…
Wonder soap is good too. You can buy down here in NZ, not to sure if it’s available in the US. Then again, a nice embroidered flower always looks great on denim.
hi
Or try salt. It happened to me at a restaurant when i was at the beginning of a business trip, two tiny blotches of olive oil on my best jeans and i was terrified. And a colleague told me to put some salt (of course, available on-site), leave it on for a few minutes, rub a little, throw away and repeat the process. Magic!
