After a long time on the sidelines, the brooch is back. In a big way.

We started to see traces of its return a couple of years ago (throwback to the Dries Fall 2013 show…remember the crystal insects and lizards??) but it’s only in recent months that we’ve seen it on the streets. People are embracing pinning again — but not just on their sweaters or the lapels of their coats…

We’re seeing brooches decorating handbags (where silk scarves once draped) or fixed to beanies, which is a super easy way to make a winter necessity more unique.

Are you wearing brooches again? How do you wear yours??

  • I love all of these ideas! I usually wear a brooch attached to the left breast of a large overcoat or on a scarf, but I love the idea of pinning one to a hat!

  • I’m a fan. My friend Khristy and I have been collecting them the last couple years at thrift stores. Also fun to trade with friends.

  • I have a small collection of brooches that I use a lot and love to death – they are indispensable. Some are hand-me-downs from my mother. I’ve designed a couple and had them made by jewellers — Erickson Beamon did one for me in London.

Sometimes a brooch is the exact ingredient to pull together an outfit. And I have a couple that I use to pin all manner of cardigans, jackets that don’t have buttons, scarves and shawls. There’s one in midnight blue and black that works with most of my wardrobe and people often comment on it.

I have a smoking skull from van gogh’s museum, an I<3NY from times square, and a 4 leaf clover! I want to add up as I see more pins that I like, but I just dont look for them, I need to come across hem, like by chance, that 's how it works for me :)

  • I usually wear them on scarves or, depending on the brooch, above my left or right breast and on the lapels of my jacket, on my shirt collar, or on the collar or my turtleneck sweater. :)

  • I just found a tiny ladybug brooche in one of my mom’s drawers and it would look amazing on the shoulder strap of my recently purchased Zara overall dress!

  • So happy to read this !
I wore pins years ago and have a nice collection. Each one has a special memory.
Will definitely begin wearing them again and love the idea of putting them in ” surprise” places.
On a bag is a fun idea!

I have a potbourri of brooches. Most of them are heirlooms. I love them as a clasp for cardigans. Wearing grey/black from head to toe I pin them classically on revers as an eyecatcher. Fancy brooches are able to transport a statement (not buttons alone). Madame Albright is an expert on this subject!

  • I have several. One brooch was found in Amsterdam and was so funny that I almost didn’t believe I actually saw it, taking into consideration.. well.. It’s a flat silhuette of an angel with Anaconda kind of buttocks :) It really makes people smile when they see it pinned on a lapel of a very formal jacket (pity it’s impossible to attach a picture to the reply). Other brooches are heirlooms, rather naive and touching biju from my grandmothers.

  • The thing with brooches though I love them deeply is that they’re hard to attach securely. Either they rip a hole into my clothes or they hang so loose that I lose them too easily. Whenever I happened to overcome these problems like on my coats for example these pretty little things got stolen as I checked them in on nights out.

  • I never stopped wearing brooches! That being said, I am pinning (and not just on pinterest) more often than I used to.

@motmotbijoux

  • I love pins and I’ve got to start wearing them instead of just collecting! :D

I think pins are the best – they’re subtle enough but also not easy to ignore.
