Let's Talk About

Miami Heat

Miami Heat

As I’ve mentioned, I have a lot of weddings to attend this year.

Next on my list is Miami and I have been pretty conscious about the fact that I am going to be in a bikini for the majority of the weekend. But, one thing I have yet to figure out is what to wear to this wedding! And that’s where I am hoping you can help. What’s the style there these day? Please tell me body-con dresses and super high heels are out! We all know I can’t wear heels and I am super minimal in my clothing selections. But to be honest, I also like to be comfortable and sexy in the not-showing-too-much kind of way. Any suggestions for a New Yorker heading to Miami??

I wore a cornflower-blue, off-the-shoulder dress from Reformation to a wedding in Newport, RI this past weekend and got TONS of compliments (literally everyone there, it was crazy) With a block heel in a bright color, all of their dresses in bright colors or floral prints would look fabulous in Miami :D

  • I see you in a nice 60’s style dress with flat sandals……no fancy heels or body con dress required. ;)

  • Why care about Miami style when you’re coming from the capital of cool?
I attended a wedding last summer on a VERY hot day and the bride and bridesmaids all had Grecian goddess dresses. The bride’s was long and white; the bridesmaids short and lavendar. They all wore flat sandals. They all looked great.

Sounds fun! I love wedges for Summer beach or garden weddings. Also there are a bunch of rally cute flats that are embellished, some have cute Pom Pom like things on them those would be fun with a solid dress or skirt and top in a fun colour.

  • I am into simple monochromatic backless dress!

    Chère Amanda,
Je pense que cette robe et ces sandales “bijoux” pourraient convenir à un mariage à Miami. je vous invite à aller voir ces liens. Tenez- nous au courant de vos choix !

I’m in South Florida, and if you’re going to be outside then I recommend opting for breathable fabrics like linen and silk if at all possible. The humidity in summer means you really don’t want a non-breathable fabric stuck to your skin. If you will be inside then it will probably be *freezing* because a lot of places go overboard with the A/C. Seriously. I have seen friends from the NE huddled in a big sweater and their coat in a nice restaurant here, because the crazy A/C had them feeling colder indoors in Florida than outdoors in NY in March!

If you’re moving from indoors to outdoors then that means carrying a warm layer (for me, that’s usually a cashmere cardigan) that you can throw on. Beyond that, bright prints and patterns are kind of a thing here, and I see a lot of rompers (on those in their teens and 20s) and floaty dresses (on those 30 and older). FWIW I’d focus on getting your dual outdoor / indoor layering to work, though.

  • Maybe a two-piece or a red dress with fringing! x

  • Hello !

I went to Miami last summer for a wedding. Maxi dresses or any kind of flowy breezy dresses with nice flats will do just fine. Summer is Miami’s rainy season too so be prepared.

  • Nice post dear!

It depends on your demographic. If you are a lilly white chic than you can get away with anything because nobody is going to be paying attention to you. But high heels (in opposite scandalous design and color) are still the rage. Sexy is in, so short is in…form fitting (everyone walks around in yoga pants)

  • I’d wear a breezy, comfortable white cotton dress with Mexican embroidery and sandals. Have fun!
