“Send her to the dry cleaners” was Alfred Hitchcock’s response to an angry letter from a man whose daughter wouldn’t go near a shower after watching Psycho (In the little girl’s defense, we all temporarily became psychos after watching that).

@lettersofnote features an interesting collection of the most unusual correspondence that varies widely from soul-crushing rejection letters to the words that Nixon would’ve read if Apollo 11 had not returned from the moon to Virginia Wolfe’s devastating suicide letter. It’s not the most active Instagram account out there so I highly recommend you buy the books. And cherish the snail mail, because believe you me, no-one will ever publish a book on the important email correspondence that circulated in the 21st century. Anybody want to be my pen pal?

Thank you so very much for pointing us to this delightful, marvelous account. I’ve been procrastinating all morning reading those letters first on IG, and then on Twitter, where Shaun is very active @LettersOfNote. I seldom comment here anymore and do not come as much as I did when Garance was more involved, but I’m happy I dropped by and found this article.
