Let’s Hear It for Dior!

Let’s Hear It for Dior!

Now, there’s one more thing to love about Dior.
(As if there wasn’t enough already, right?)

I’m a fan of Dior’s skincare products, which are always subtle in scent and come in the most elegant packaging — pots and bottles that line up like striking ornaments in a bathroom. But, I am totally on board after hearing about their new ambitions to take a more conscious approach…

It’s not always easy to take steps towards more sustainable measures as a global luxury brand, though Dior is slowly transitioning all of their skincare items to come with follow up refills — this means you buy the initial product for a slightly higher price and then reuse that container by putting in a more affordable refill once you run out. Kind of just logical, but also brilliant. Everyone wins — your wallet, Dior (because you’re still using their product, haha, of course..) and, most importantly, the environment.

Anyway I thought this all sounded pretty cool! But what hit home the most, was when it was broken down. Say, for just the Capture Totale creme, they predict they can save almost 12 tons of packaging and 600,000 cubic meters of water usage each year that the refill system is used.

I know there are lots of other brands that are moving in this direction too…

  • Bravo Dior ! I hope everyone else follows this suit. We need to protect our planet from our vanity and greed, for our own sake.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

  • That’s such a good initiative and I was completely unaware that a brand such as Dior was doing this. Makes me look at their beauty line with a complete different vision, well done.

  • quelle belle idée!!!!

  • This is good to hear…no reason why other brands cannot follow suit. Too bad it comes on the heels of the news that Estee Lauder is lifting their ban on animal testing. I guess you win some and you lose some.

    Merci Dior :)

  • This is a great step in the right direction, but Dior still tests on animals. I know there’s a big debate about animal testing for medical purposes, but I definitely can’t justify supporting violence and cruelty for the sake of beauty when there are so many ethical alternatives. Consumers can make a real difference in the lives of these animals by choosing where their money goes! Ok, sorry to be such a downer, but it seems like we forget about animal testing when we’re buying products, I’m absolutely guilty of this. It’s haaaard to give up an amazing product, but animals are literally tortured for this shit, and I’m trying to be more conscious of who gets my money. REALLY miss my Bumble products.

  • OK, nice, but what about nanoparticules they use?

  • This is fantastic – I think more brands should follow suit – or at least have it as an option and then it’s down to the consumer. I immediately thought of Creme de la mer as their moisturiser (in particular) comes in a fantastically hard wearing pot, they could definitely do this too.
