Key In The Hand

It’s the 56th Venice Biennale!

Maybe the biggest event of the year for contemporary art, the Biennale is a huge celebration of digital, installation, and more conceptually-driven art practice. It’s seriously cool — the way different artworks physically takeover and intertwine with the historical landscape of the city.

And one of the most exciting art piece is by Chiharu Shiota, an expansive work of keys and red yarn in the Biennale’s Japenese pavilion. It’s a red web, with over 50,000 keys that were collected from the general public that hang over two rustic boats. Shiota explained his concept, “keys are familiar and very valuable things that protect important people and spaces in our lives. they also inspire us to open the door to unknown worlds…”

Cool, right? Do you love modern art too? We really love the idea behind this one, and how you can walk in and around the artwork itself…
