This week I learned that, in addition to once being a fashion designer, Helmut Lang is now a visual artist. Did you know this? I’ve always loved Lang’s designs (so much black fabric — my favorite!), so I was very curious to see his art…
Now open in New York, Lang’s first art show features sculptures made out of repurposed fabric, zippers, and other materials that were salvaged from a fire at his studio in 2010. In a final attempt to leave the fashion world behind and make a full transition to the art world, Lang took what was left of his fashion archives and shredded them up for this show. “I don’t like to throw things away,” he says, “but I also have the ability to end chapters of my life”.

Helmut Lang a compté parmi les plus grands designers des années 90, il a contribuer à élaborer les fondations de ce qui constitue notre vestiaire au quotidien encore aujourd’hui. Merci pour ça !
