Let's Talk About...

An American in Venice

10 years ago by

Everyone has a favorite Penn right?

Ok, well in case you can’t decide, a retrospective of Irving Penn’s work is on display now until December at the Palazzo Grassi in Venice (on the canals!). From his iconic black and white imagery (the likes of Truman Capote) to the softly vibrant flowers, there is no shortage of favorites to choose from. Mine? The corner portraits, Marlene Dietrich as the stand out.

Venice is so lovely…a fairytale, almost. And that photo! She has such simple, classic style in hair, makeup and clothes that transcends the years, like so many of the women featured on Garance’s site. Wish I could go! :-)

A woman of great style; and interesting, too. We can never get bored of her.

  • Definitely going! Cannot wait to see it. Palazzo Grassi is truly a great place for his exibition.

I don’t thinks this is a black and white portrait of Truman Capote that is displayed as a picture ;) You put the one of Marlene Dietrich !

  • Truman Capote?
I’d say it is Marlene Dietrich, isn’t she?

    Vraiment extra, bisous !

  • This is a sublime photo. My favorite Penn must be ‘Earthly Bodies’ series. [though I also love the Clinique ads, I have to admit ;-) ]

The Exposition is just fantastic. You can also see there in a room several internegatives that werde never shown before.Really impressing!May i just add one information: the adddress is not Dorsoduro(other side of Canale Grande) but San Marco 3231(Campo San Samuele).
    Enjoy it while visiting Venezia!

    Bise ;)
