Describe your style in 3 words.
Understated, clean, tailored.
What are your must have wardrobe items?
Wide leg sailor pants, 3/4 length skirts , chiffon slip dresses, striped t shirts, black cardigans, oversized sweaters and a statement coat.
What is your ideal outfit or uniform to wear every day?
Depending what I’m doing, I am either wearing wide leg pants and a striped shirt or some kind of delicate printed dress or skirt with a t-shirt or sweater. I wear a coat or jacket anytime I can.
What are the most important qualities of an outfit when you get dressed?
I have to feel at ease in what I’m wearing, I tend to take something away after I get dressed. I love a good line for garments, and soft, interesting fabrics.
Who are your style icons?
Pina Bausch, Audrey Hepburn.
As an LA based designer, what are your thoughts on the ever-growing creative community that seems to be emerging there? The fashion scene has grown exponentially in the past few years. Why do you think this is and how do you see your brand adapting and growing?
In my experience, LA has been a very open, creative environment. I’m always meeting new people as there are so many artists/designers/ musicians here. It is interesting to see all the hybrid design happening: interiors and fashion, food and design, art/ dance and fashion, music etc. People have new ideas which is exciting and I think it’s why it is growing so much. Also everything is dense but also spread out- I love being downtown in the Arts District and I feel like I’m in a different city. It lends a subterranean element to LA.
Every piece you carry in your store comes with a certain amount of thoughtfulness behind their designs. Can you elaborate on how you curate and edit your shop? What are the most important values or characteristics of a brand or piece when looking for new offerings?
I have only one real criteria for the store and that is that I must really love and use everything going in there. Whether it’s the children’s collections I buy for my son, the ceramics I use at home, or collections I wear- I try to choose what I find beautiful and unique. I feel like these days there are many great trend driven stores with popular brands but I have been trying to do something that is very classic and timeless in my store. The clothes don’t change as quickly and I like to see how my collection and the other lines develop piece by piece. I try to create a calm environment to shop in also that is quite and edited- I’m always taking things off the floor. I look for quality and craftsmanship first, something that will last and has value. I feel happy when people tell me the store has a distinct point of view. I love to think about every detail.
